The State University of New York at Buffalo, Jacob’s School of Medicine, is seeking candidates for a faculty position at the level of Associate Professor or Professor of Surgery in the Department of Surgery to serve as the Chief of the Division of Thoracic Surgery.  Applicants must have an MD or MD/PhD degree, board certification in thoracic surgery and be able to obtain a New York State license.  In addition, the candidate must show evidence of high-impact publications, demonstrate the ability to lead innovative research projects as well as the business aspects of the entire division.

Job responsibilities will include leading a team of Thoracic Surgeons who will provide adult thoracic surgery, and clinical services at Great Lakes Health System, Buffalo, NY.  

The chief of Thoracic Surgery will closely collaborate with Trauma, General and Vascular Surgery teams.  He or She will develop and implement the Division's strategic plan, in collaboration with the Chair, which sets forth clinical, financial, educational and research divisional objectives to support and complement the mission statement of the Department of Surgery, the State University of New York and Buffalo, the Jacobs’ School of Medicine and the affiliated Hospitals. 

 The candidate will be expected to establish the Division of Thoracic Surgery as surgical leaders on a local and national level, and continue to acquire the medical, financial, and research resources to achieve this objective. Significant resources for the establishment of a research program are available. The candidate will be expected to conduct research on current high impact topics, participate in all divisional activities, perform patient care activities, develop an independent practice and become involved in teaching medical students, residents and fellows.  The candidate will be expected to integrate clinical quality, research, and education programs in thoracic surgery across all participating hospitals.
