Every city needs medical professionals who can support community health and provide care to those in need. However, the supply of available healthcare practitioners is not equal across the country. A recent Doximity report identified the U.S. cities with the highest demand for physicians.

Nationally, family medicine and internal medicine remain the specialties with the highest demand. These positions can pay more than $228,000 and $224,000, respectively, with room for growth depending on an individual's experience level and qualifications. Additionally, more organizations are offering signing bonuses and similar incentives in an effort to keep up with competition for talent.

Little Rock


Average salary range: $164,258 - $214,023

A 2017 analysis of the best places to practice medicine in the U.S. placed Little Rock in the top five cities due to its low malpractice rates, high post-residency retention and affordable cost of living. The Arkansas Congress is also well-known for working with the physician community as it develops new policies.
