Piedmont Atlanta Hospital is recruiting for a Critical Care Nurse Practitioner to join our Organ Recovery team. This is a full time position that is 7 on 7 off.


JOB PURPOSE:
Serves as a member of the Organ Recovery critical care team by assisting in the management of deceased organ donors in the hospital. Applies specialized skills and knowledge related to ICU and OR settings in which they practice. Contributes to excellence in clinical care, research, teaching, consulting and provides leadership to the organization.

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Graduate from an accredited school of nursing with current Georgia license for Advanced Practice Nursing and a Master
• s degree in Nursing, OR graduate of an accredited Physician Assistance program with current license for the Georgia State Composite Board.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Two years in a critical care inpatient setting required.

MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:
Licensed Physician Assistant in the State of Georgia OR Licensed for Advanced Practice Nursing (ACNP).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides direct clinical services for deceased organ donors with institutional guidelines and utilizing evidence-based clinical practice standards under the supervision of the intensivist.
2. Orders and interprets appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests, explaining the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of procedure(s) to deceased donor
• s family, staff, and healthcare learners.
3. Performs approved therapeutic or diagnostic procedures based on deceased donor
• s clinical status and documents procedures in accordance with hospital requirements, including placing central and arterial lines; obtaining arterial, venous and capillary blood samples, urine samples, sputum samples and cultures; performing cardiac output measurements, other hemodynamic measurements and EKGs; assisting with the performance of radiographic studies; assisting physician and performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
4. Performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation and external cardiac massage; administration of life supporting drugs according to established protocols; and defibrillation according to Advanced Cardiac Life Support standards.
5. Under physician direction and within the credentialing standards of the Hospital, inserts and manages arterial catheters, central venous catheters, pulmonary artery catheters, temporary pacemakers, and intra-aortic balloon pump catheters.
6. Provides call coverage to the Organ Recovery Center as assigned, with a 30 minute response time for urgent donor evaluation, management and procedural needs.
7. Participates and leads daily ICU donor rounds with the intensivist and provides clear communication for the management plans for each donor to nursing staff.
8. Formulates and implements a treatment plan for donor management in collaboration with the intensivist and documents in medical records and appropriate narrative summaries.
9. Assesses donors for changes in status and institutes appropriate interventions, including initiation of necessary emergency interventions to stabilize donor.
10. Incorporates clinical research findings in the development and implementation of standards of care.
11. Performs and participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research.
12. Serves as a clinical expert and education consultant to nursing, members of the healthcare team, and to the larger community.
13. Assesses educational needs, plans, provides, and evaluates educational programs for nursing staff, interdisciplinary healthcare team, and community.
