Responsibilities:
Provides direct patient care under the general supervision of the Medical Director and in accordance with physician approved protocols to patients treated at University Physicians Practices. Activities include, but are not limited to health promotion and self care, complete physician examinations, request of radiologic and lab studies, assessment and diagnosis, ordering of medications and treatments, education, periodic screening, episodic are, chronic disease management, referrals, education and counseling.

Provides care in compliance with Federal, State and established hospital protocols. Provides quality primary care in accordance with standards established by University Hospital and University Health Care Physicians i.e. comprehensive, coordinated, integrated, and accountable.

Qualifications:
EducationMasters in Nursing Science Nurse Practitioner from an accredited school of nursing.Licensure/CertificationMust have a Georgia License for Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Practitioner. Certified as Nurse Practitioner from American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). BLS certification from the American Heart Association required.ExperiencePossesses thorough knowledge of all aspects of primary care and has demonstrated competence in providing competent direct patient care as a nurse practitioner. A minimum of three years experience as a nurse practitioner preferred.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesDemonstrates strong customer service/interpersonal skills. Demonstrates competency and skills in providing primary care as a nurse practitioner. Must possess substantial interpersonal skills sufficient to interact with adult (young, middle age, and geriatric) in order to explain goals of therapy, provide instruction to optimize cooperation, and to reduce anxiety/apprehension. Must possess substantial interpersonal skills to discuss outcomes of therapy with hospital personnel and physicians. Must be able to provide effective instruction to patients, family members and various levels, students, nurses and physicians. Must demonstrate a high degree of ingenuity and innovation. Must possess analytical abilities and sound knowledge necessary for the effective formulation of Education/Teaching Plans, Implementation of care, and appropriate documentation of pertinent patient information. Must possess adequate computer skills in word processing and spreadsheet to manage data collection and written communication. Must possess a high level of educational expertise.Physical DemandsIndividual physical activity includes: long periods of communication; verbal and written, hearing, manual dexterity, standing, sitting and walking, bending and stooping, lifting heavy objects. Sensory abilities of sight, auditory, tactile and olfactory are required to observe patients and their symptoms.
