General Academic Pediatrics, Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh

The Division of General Academic Pediatrics (GAP) at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh (CHP) and the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine are seeking a faculty member for the clinician educator track. A position is open at entry or mid-level in the non-tenure stream. The position will be based at our Primary Care Centers, in the Oakland and Turtle Creek neighborhoods of Pittsburgh, PA, which see a diverse population of patients. An ideal candidate would have fellowship training, an MPH or MS degree, chief residency or significant clinical or teaching experience, and a strong interest in improving care to underserved children. Responsibilities include ambulatory clinical sessions as well as teaching medical students and residents in the office setting. On call is shared with all other members of the Division and involves phone coverage, evening or Saturday morning acute care appointments, as well as newborn nursery rounding on weekends.

The GAP Division is distinguished by (1) excellence in clinical care in the outpatient and community settings, (2) a record of academic achievement in medical student, resident and fellow education (recipient of the Academic Pediatric Association 2009 Outstanding Teaching Award, HRSA-funded T32 Fellowship Program, and (3) well established, diverse and high impact clinical research activities (~5 million/year in NIH support). Pediatric outpatients are cared for in a facility adjacent to faculty offices at the University of Pittsburgh campus (Primary Care Center – Oakland), and at a community-based office (Primary Care Center – Turtle Creek). Faculty provide newborn care and teaching at the adjacent UPMC Magee-Women’s Hospital. All division activities are supported by a vibrant university community. CHP has been consistently ranked among the top 10 children’s hospitals in the US and is one of the fastest growing department of pediatrics in the country.

Applicants must be board eligible or certified in Pediatrics. Salary will be commensurate with training and experience. Interested individuals contact and send a cover letter and CV to Alejandro Hoberman, M.D., General Academic Pediatrics, UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh; 3414 Fifth Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15213-2583.
