Description:
Under the guidance and direction of the Deputy Executive Director of Nursing or designee, the Director of Nursing is responsible for providing support to Nursing Department in formatting and development of a Patient Centered Care delivery system that is clinically and financially productive and responsive to health care knowledge and reform. The Administrator role supports the daily operations of the department by managing human resources processes, budget development and management, and coordination of interdepartmental activities that impact direct care delivery. The Administrator is knowledgeable in care delivery system, materials management, finance, Patient Centered Principles, Joint Commission, Department of Health, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Patient Bill of Rights and the Hospital Policies and Procedures.

The competent functioning of this role is evidenced by a balanced budget, personnel records and performance evaluations maintained in compliance with the standards, and customer/physician satisfaction. As a member of Bellevue's Management Team, he/she displays the behavioral characteristics articulated for this role, engenders confidence and trust and fosters collaborative/collegial relationships that generate high staff achievement and pride.

Oversees the overall quality of patient care, ensuring compliance with internal/external standards and regulatory mandates.

• Collaborates effectively with the medical staff and interdisciplinary leaders in the provision of patient care.

• Integrates the department/service into the organization's primary functions, through self and staff participation in relevant committees.

• Participates in the selection and utilization or resources for needed services not provided by the organization.

• Assumes readiness and dependability in organizing and discharging assigned duties.

• Establishes objectives with service and unit leaders annually.

• Ensures that the service/ unit leaders guide, counsels and evaluates staff initially and annually.

• Ensures that progressive disciplinary process is implemented and followed to completion within the HHC policies.

• Ensures that evening/night leadership coverage is adequate.
