At WellStar, we all share common goals. That's what makes us so successful - and such an integral part of our communities. We want the same things, for our organization, for our patients, and for our colleagues. As the most integrated healthcare provider in Georgia, this means we pride ourselves on investing in the communities that we serve. We continue to provide innovative care models, focused on improving quality and access to healthcare.

Responsibilities

CONSULTATION-LIAISON PSYCHIATRIST (SOUTH COBB)
7 days on, 7 days off (7:00a - 7:00p), 10 hours per day on-site

A member of the Mayo Clinic Network, WellStar Health System is an 11-hospital system, recognized as the 5th most integrated health system in the United States, and the largest health system in Georgia.

WellStar is committed to investing in the communities we serve. We continue to develop innovative care models, focused on improving quality and access to healthcare. To this end, the WellStar Medical Group is excited to announce an opportunity for a consultation-liaison psychiatrist to support the needs of Wellstar Cobb Hospital in Austell, GA.

Located in south Cobb County, Wellstar Cobb Hospital is a 382-bed hospital serving a diverse west Atlanta suburban population. Wellstar Cobb offers a continuum of psychiatric services, including a free-standing 32-bed adult inpatient behavioral health unit, a 7-day per week consultation-liaison psychiatry service, and an outpatient psychiatric clinic set to open in mid-2021. There are also plans to reopen an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) on the Cobb campus in late-2021.

Working alongside masters-level counselors, the consultation-liaison psychiatrist provides services for the Cobb medical floors and the Emergency Department. The psychiatrist leads morning huddles with masters-level clinicians to coordinate needed behavioral health care for medically hospitalized patients. She/He leverages psychiatric expertise to improve patient outcomes, ensure optimal care coordination, and deliver on Wellstar's promise to provide "world class healthcare to every patient, every time." Whereas the consultation-liaison psychiatrist works within Cobb Hospital, we are building our team with clinicians who share our commitment to caring for patients across the continuum of care to deliver better and safer outcomes.

Overview of Duties/Responsibilities
This is a full-time position, with time allocated to the provision of hospital-based clinical services. The work schedule entails a 7-days-on/7-days-off cadence, in which shifts are 12 hours (7a-7p), with a minimum of 10 hours required on-site. The rotating schedule affords the clinician 26 weeks off every calendar year, intended to help with work-life balance.

Services are provided in-person on the Wellstar Cobb campus, which is approximately 20 miles west of midtown Atlanta on I-20. The C-L psychiatrist functions as a member of the WellStar Medical Group's Behavioral Health team - a team comprised of ~50 licensed behavioral health providers. On a daily basis, the psychiatrist will work closely with members of the Cobb behavioral health team and should be fully integrated with the Cobb Medical Staff. The clinician will obtain and maintain hospital privileges at WellStar Cobb Hospital and may have responsibilities for overseeing the work of an advanced practitioner. Openness to the use of telepsychiatry to achieve the stated aims is required.

The ideal candidate is one who is team-oriented and able to lead effectively in an inter-disciplinary setting, possessing a commitment to collaboration, active listening skills, the ability to communicate clearly and effectively, and strong decision-making acumen. He/She should be comfortable with the pace and changing conditions of a hospital environment and have expertise in working with adults and older adults with various psychiatric and medical conditions, including neurocognitive disorders such as delirium/dementia, acutely decompensated psychiatric illness, complicated detox, and other conditions as they present in the ED or on admission to the medical floor. Specialized training and experience in consultation-liaison, med/psych, and/or geriatric psychiatry is ideal.

Job Requirements:

Required Minimum Education: (1) completion of a medical degree (MD/DO), (2) completion of general ACGME psychiatry residency training program, (3) license to practice psychiatry in the State of Georgia; and (4) ABPN board-certification (or board-eligibility)
