The Student Nurse Vaccination Clinic position is responsible for greeting and registering patrons into the vaccination clinic. The Student Nurse will administer the vaccination independently, however, a Registered Nurse must be on site at the clinic. Other duties may include scheduling follow up appointments, maintaining patient documentation, as well as setting up the clinic in the morning or closing up the clinic at end of the shift.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

After competence has been assessed, the student nurse will be responsible to provide the following basic care tasks/functions to patients independently but under the direction of the RN.
  • Follows treatment plan as directed by licensed personnel.
  • Performs the following tasks as assigned:
  • Administer IM vaccination in the deltoid
  • Restocking supplies, checking or cleaning any equipment.
  • Assists with the registering process and documents on admission database as appropriate.
  • Performs necessary functions to ensure patient comfort and satisfaction with service.
  • Accepts responsibility for providing safe, appropriate, quality patient care.
  • Communicates changes in patients' conditions to the RN.
  • Documentation for all assigned responsibilities
  • Maintains responsibility for own professional development through active participation in inservices and/or continuing education programs as appropriate.
  • Complies with established chain of command for work related problems.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Stands for up to 10 hours per day; 8 hours at a time. Walks 6 hours per day; 10 minutes at a time. Sits up to 7 hours per day; 1 hour at a time. Consistently lifts, carries and pushes objects up to 10 lbs. Occasionally lifts, carries and pushes objects up 50lbs. Frequently stoops and bends. Frequently reaches above shoulder level. Must be able to perceive attributes of an object trough touch. Must be able to hear as it relates to normal conversation, and high and low frequencies. Must be able to see as it relates to general, near, far, color and peripheral vision.

EDUCATION:

High School graduate or equivalent required.

Currently enrolled and attending an accredited nursing program, either a BSN, Associates or Diploma program required.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Attends St. Luke's University Health Network orientation required.
