Position Summary
The Registered Nurse provides consistent and professional patient care in a variety of settings in the organization. This position ensures that all patients receive competent, professional, and personable medical care, consistent with all applicable regulations, credential requirements, medical standards, and established protocols.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Applies the nursing process to evaluate patient health. This may include scheduled visits, walk-in patients, and patient telephone calls to the practice.
  2. May assess patient health care status at the time of service. This may include chief complaint, past medical history, physical, psychosocial and cultural baselines, external support systems, and other issues that will impact upon the patient's ability to cope with the current health situation.
  3. Collaborates with the appropriate health care professionals in implementing a plan of care appropriate to the current situation. Review Electronic Medical Records (EMR) as necessary to facilitate care and nursing decisions.
  4. Records nursing care using the appropriate documentation - EMR, IDX, or progress notes.
  5. Continually evaluates patient flows and provides intervention to facilitate patient flow to an optimum time line.
  6. Implements appropriate patient education to meet the individual health care needs.
  7. Communicates any potential adverse situations in a prompt and timely manner to supervisory staff for immediate intervention. Keeps supervisory staff aware of any problems that have occurred within the area of responsibility.
  8. Serves as a role model for professional behavior in the delivery of patient care and adheres to ethical and legal standards of the organization.
  9. Communicates effectively with all staff, patients, providers and others by using a positive team centered approach.
  10. Anticipates potential problems/obstacles in daily operations and intervenes effectively.
  11. Ensures and promotes compliance with all departmental and organizational policies including but not limited to the following:
    • Standards regarding training, professional development, communication, and management of workload.
    • OSHA/safety and emergency policies and procedures

OTHER DUTIES

The Registered Nurse may also:

  1. Participate in educational programs offered by the organization.
  2. Help to maintain a safe, clean, and orderly work environment.
  3. Perform other duties as needed to ensure a high level of patient care and smooth operations.

Education
This position requires an Associate's Degree in Nursing and current Maryland, Registered Nurse. This position requires appropriate state licensure (MD) as a Registered Nurse or evidence of the application for licensure as required by the District Board of Nursing along with a letter of "supervised practice" from DC Board or appropriate state of licensure.

Experience
Clinical experience in the assigned Practice Area is preferred, but not required. 0-2 years of experience is preferred.
