Currently seeking to hire a full-time, or part-time/PRN General Surgery Unit- RN need. Days or Night shifts needed for Inpatient at Naval Hospital Portsmouth

Qualifications: A diploma or degree from a National Council or State Boards of Nursing accredited school, current unrestricted license, current BLS, via the AHA, ASHI, ARC or ACEP. A minimum of 1 years of experience within the last 2 years as an RN working in a surgical unit or in an emergency room setting . No adverse information on file with the NPDB.

Job Duties:

Assess each patient and perform triage duties as assigned. Formulate and carry out a goal directed plan of care which is based on determined nursing diagnosis and patient outcomes and which is prioritized according to patient needs and available resources including time, personnel, equipment and supplies. Provide treatment discharge instructions upon patient release. Perform assessment/data collection in an ongoing and systematic manner, focusing on physiological, and psychological, and cognitive status. Provide a safe and clean environment for each patient. Identify patient/significant other learning needs and implement appropriate measures to meet identified needs. Assist in planning, provide clinical guidance and provide instruction to LPN's/LVN's, nursing assistants and ancillary personnel. Demonstrate sound knowledge base and action the care and decision making for designated patient populations. If weakness or deficiencies are identified either by peer reviews, quality control reports (QCR's), or evaluations the Health Care Worker will be required to complete refresher training. Perform documentation (manually or by use of computer) duties on unit and inpatient record that are timely, accurate, and concise. Provide direct patient care and facilitate an interdisciplinary team concept. Assure that comprehensive plans of care are implemented based on individualized application of the nursing process, including early identification of patients emotional and discharge planning needs. Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and collaborate with team members to ensure patient's needs are addressed across the continuum of care, and that the plan of care is revised based on the patients response to care regimen delivered. Identify and respond quickly and appropriately to changes in patients conditions. Assume leadership role as needed in emergency situations, delegate and technically direct others in a calm and effective manner. Ensure proper use of equipment in the care of patients for. Identify equipment malfunctions and report to supervisor. Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing in order to give easily understood directions. Obtain feedback to determine level of understanding. Encourage and promote two way communications with colleagues and patients. Ensure that established documentation protocols are followed. Accept patient as assigned. Provide wound management, nutritional guidance, and psychological support to patients and families. Assume leadership role in emergent situations, as required, delegate and technically direct others in a calm and effective manner. Teach in a manner understood and appropriate to the level of the audience.
