Overview:
Children's Outpatient Services provides treatment for children and adolescents and their families and is intended to improve and maintain a childs or an adolescents stability in the community. Treatment focuses on problem resolution, symptom reduction, stabilization and/or prevention of movement to a higher level of care. Services include individual, family and group therapy, medication evaluation and management, case management, in home intervention, case consultation and summer day treatment services. The type of treatment is highly variable and depends upon the individuals existing symptoms and developmental level.

Responsibilities:
Clinical Responsibilities:Directs the clinical nursing services provided at Childrens Outpatient Program clinics in Mobile and Baldwin countiesIdentifies problems, evaluates alternative and implements effective solutionsMonitors program contracts, budgets, staff productivity as directedEnsures compliance with DMH, Joint Commission and Medicaid standardsEnsures compliance with SAMHSA grant and UDS data requirementsCommunicates effectively with the physician regarding the consumers physical and mental condition as neededInterfaces with the multi-disciplinary team and actively and cooperatively participates in development of the interdisciplinary treatment plan as neededAdministers medications, observing the Seven Rights of medication administrationContacts laboratory, requests and monitor results, and reports all abnormal findings to the physicianProvides emergency care as needed (CPR, MindSet, PRN Medications), per AltaPointe Policy & Procedures as neededProvides supervision and oversight of MAC services and ensures ongoing compliance with the Nurse Delegation Program for the Transitional Age residential program.Demonstrates the ability to recognize the elements of a crisis state and knows how to deescalate or resolve the situation as neededActs as MAS nurse for the divisionAdheres to professional code of ethics Effectively demonstrates the application of child/adolescent and adult specific competenciesAdministers appropriate personnel functions:Interviews and screens nursing applicants when necessary and completes appropriate forms as outlined by Personnel Policy and ProceduresProvides staff training in the general orientation of the facility, policies and procedures, program operations and specific skill areasIs knowledgeable and applies personnel policies and procedures on a consistent basisObjectively completes employee performance evaluations on program staff and routes to Personnel department on a timely basisPromotes concept of treatment teams. Acts as a member of treatment teamProvides positive and effective leadershipProvides staff with consultation and supervision as needed, individually or through regular group staff meetingsEnsures competence of program nursing staff Supervision and Consultation:Seeks clinical supervision and consultation needsAccepts and employs suggestions for improvementActively works to enhance clinical skillsClinical Record Keeping:Documents in a timely fashion per AltaPointe policy.Documents in a clear, concise manner, types of consumers problems, treatment goals and services providedEnsures documentation shows that forms, notes, logs, and other applicable written information is completed promptly, accurately and updated when appropriateDocuments legiblyCourteous and respectful attitudes towards consumers, visitors and co-workers:Treats consumers with care, dignity and compassionRespects consumers privacy and confidentialityIs pleasant and cooperative with othersAssists consumers and visitors as neededPersonal values dont inhibit ability to relate and care for othersIs sensitive to the consumers needs, expectations and individual differencesIs gentle and calm with consumers and familiesAdministrative and Other related duties as Assigned:Actively participates in Performance Improvement activitiesActively participates in MMHC committees as required Completes assigned tasks in a timely manner Accesses appropriate community resources according to consumer needs Follows MMHC Policy & Procedures Maintains current state license and requirements for renewals (i.e. CEUs), and attends the required in-services and workshops

Qualifications:
Possesses current RNs license to practice in the state of Alabama. Knowledge in child/adolescent and adult specialty, outlined below, to be attained within (6) six months of employment:Knowledge of psychiatric disorders in the child/adolescent and adult populationKnowledge of general and psychiatric nursing careBasic knowledge of medical terminology Familiarity of psychopharmacology and the use of psychotropic medications with the child/adolescent and adult populationKnowledge of behavior management, crisis intervention and, interventions common to acute psychotic consumers as well as to non-violent crisis intervention practiceKnowledge of the principles of growth and developmentKnowledge of educational methods appropriate to children/adolescents with severe and persistent psychiatric disorders Knowledge of cultural diversityKnowledge of DMH, Medicaid and Joint Commission standardsKnowledge of the standards for the Nurse Delegation Program and successful completion of MAS certificationsKnowledge of utilizing electronic health recordKnowledge of private insurance reimbursement Knowledge of Trauma Informed Care Principles
