Job Summary

Responsible for medical direction of the care and treatment of patients and residents at Spaulding Nursing and Therapy Centers, Brighton. Provides physician direction and guidance to site based clinical teams to assure quality care for patients. Directly or by delegation to site-based physicians, provides medical oversight of all advance practice clinicians. Serves as liaison and contact among the acute facilities, home care program, other Spaulding Rehabilitation Network inpatient rehabilitation facilities and medical director colleagues to ensure that SNF care is optimized, and that patient flow across the continuum of care is appropriate and effective.

Key Responsibilities:
Collaborates with facility management to ensure all policies, procedures and guidelines for clinical care are current, comprehensive and evidenced based.
Actively participates in facility committees as appropriate (i.e. quality improvement, infection control, ethics).
Oversee compliance with all relevant federal and state regulatory requirements.
Ensures appropriate medical oversight of advance practice clinicians. Includes but not limited to annual reviews, productivity and education.
Provides consultation, as needed, in the care of patients with complex medical conditions
Participates in care coordination or clinical team meetings at the request of clinical management
Participates in the development of new programs that are necessary to meet the mission of the organization.
Ensures appropriate 24/7 medical coverage of the facility is in place.
Participates in clinical coverage as needed.
Assists in the coordination of physician training programs, i.e. MGH geriatric fellowship program.
Maintains and develops ongoing collaboration with MGH Senior Health and BWH Division of Aging.
Oversees outside medical consultants i.e. podiatry, mental health, palliative care and other services as needed.

Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy, degree from an accredited medical school
Board certification by an American Board of Medical Specialties - approved board exam or equivalent
Licensed to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
Minimum of two years as skilled nursing facility medical director strongly preferred
Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects successfully
Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with referring, primary and consulting physicians. Gain sponsorship and buy-in necessary to support and implement initiatives by inviting diverse input and participation
Operate with integrity, possess a management style that is ethical, honest and objective
