Provides primary or acute healthcare services for certain acute or chronic health conditions in specific populations in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice. Works in collaboration with physicians to provide complete physical examinations, diagnosis, and treatment of both chronic and episodic disorders assigned principal responsibility for primary health care of patients. The Nurse Practitioner is assigned full time to this role and receives professional medical direction from physicians. Incumbents of this class proceed independently in the care and treatment of patients within the scope of practice defined and agreed to by medicine, nursing, and administration. An incumbent seeks the expert opinion or advice of a physician whenever the incumbent decides a case falls outside the scope authorized by policies and protocol. The Nurse Practitioner plans and implements and a physician review and confirms health care goals for patients. The Nurse Practitioner remains responsible for the patient throughout the course of the treatment, provides the physical examination, the diagnosis, and the health care plan, determines when the patient has recovered, and releases the patient. The Nurse Practitioner may refer the patient to physicians for consultation or to specialized health resources for treatment but retains responsibility for clinical management as well as any subsequent modification.

Job Requirements:

Licensure in the State of Texas as an advanced practice RN. Possession of a certificate to practice as a Nurse Practitioner issued by the State Board of Registered Nursing. X Required

Minimum of 3-5 years experience as a Clinical Nurse Practitioner X Preferred

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Work requires the knowledge of theories, principles and concepts normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree in Nursing or related field and three to five years of previous experience plus six to 12 months of time on the job. Work requires the analytical skills necessary in order to solve technical, clinical, administrative, or managerial problems that require a professional level of knowledge in a specific discipline and/or design relatively complex plans, systems, and programs. Work requires the communication skills necessary in order to enforce policies in difficult situations, assign work to other employees, or perform other duties requiring a comparable level of communication skills.
