The PACU Registered Nurse (RN) is accountable for coordinating the efforts of the multidisciplinary treatment team for the patients under his/her care. The RN is accountable for administering, supervising, coordinating, and evaluating the nursing process in the provision of care; and will strive to maintain and improve patient outcomes.
S/he is accountable for working within the parameters of the Florida Nurse Practice Act, regulatory standards, established policies, protocols and procedures; and utilizes other pertinent references as guidelines for clinical practice. S/he critically evaluates evidence for application to clinical practice in his / her area of practice.

Work Hours/Shift:

You Will Be Responsible For:
- Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and communicate patient care needs for the pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
- Performs initial nursing assessments. Documents findings within identified time frames and activates initial plan of care.
- Documents patients' progress in the medical record on a regular basis including assessment and management plans.
- Safely administers medications to patients according to hospital policy and procedures. Conducts second nurse verifications. Reconciles medication on admission and transfer.
- Reports actual or potential medication variances as well as other patient safety issues utilizing risk master and communication chain of command.
- Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.
- Documents patients' progress in the medical record on a regular basis including assessment and management plans.
- Collaborates with medical staff and/or multi-disciplinary team to facilitate the recognition, research, isolation and resolution of potential patient care problems for assigned patients.
- Provides effective handoff communication utilizing SBAR at change of shift during transfers and to assistive personnel.
- Coordinates ongoing patient and family education and discharge planning.
- Provides for orientation and training of employees to work routines and environment.
- Maintains knowledge of current trends in the field to enhance practice.
- Demonstrates knowledge and appropriate use of department equipment and supplies required for the care of patients.
- Knowledgeable of emergency resuscitation measures and properly activates code team response.
- Complies with department safety policies and procedures.
- Responsible to help ensure that the safety and well-being of patients, family members, visitors and coworkers are maintained.
- Follow initiatives for patient safety, including, but not limited to Universal Protocol, Hand Washing and Patient Identification.
- Accurately transcribes and carries out physician orders. Completes telephone order read-backs.
- Participates in unit specific and multidisciplinary Performance Improvement activities at the Hospital/Unit-based level.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Protect the health of patients, families, and employees by adhering to all infection-control policies.
- Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain.
- Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.
- Demonstrates knowledge of anesthesia blocks, arterial lines, and central lines, and epidural catheters and how to document appropriately.
- Demonstrates knowledge of PICC lines, drains, wound vacs, chest tubes
- Access and monitor mechanical ventilated patients.
- Demonstrate knowledge of and ability to care of patient requiring non-invasive ventilation.
- Knowledge & ability to maintain airway.
What You Will Need:
- Computer knowledge and skills
- Cerner medical record experienced preferred.
- Advanced IV skill set preferred
- Minimum Associate Degree or Diploma in Nursing upon hire
- Minimum of one year experience as a Registered Nurse in a PACU or critical care setting upon hire
- BSN or higher preferred
- 2 or more years critical care/PACU hospital experience preferred
- Active Florida RN or APRN license required upon hire.
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or RQI upon hire.
- Current American Heart Association Advanced Life Support (ACLS) certification or RQI upon hire
- Current American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification or RQI upon hire
- 1 hour of Stroke Education within 6 months of hire date, then annually.
- 8 hours Hip & Knee Replacement / Spine Education within 6 months of hire date, then annually.
