  • Responsible for coordination of care to meet identified needs of the patient/family. Supervises the management of patient care utilizing critical thinking and nursing process, discharge planning, resource identification, linking and scheduling patients with required services, monitoring care delivery, advocating for the patient, care planning and evaluating outcomes. Coordinates patient care across the health care continuum, and assists other team members with meeting individual patient needs. The GI RN provides quality nursing care to meet the needs of the pre, intra and post GI procedure patient.
  • This position requires flexibility of hours and the ability to take on-call for patients requiring emergency procedures.


  • Education: BSN or MSN required


  • Experience/Training:
  • Minimum 1 year of current experience in acute care area of expertise/equivalent service area, 2 years preferred.
  • Minimum two years GI Lab experience, preferred.
  • Must challenge and successfully pass the Basic Dysrhythmia course curriculum within 21 days of hire. Basic computer skills/experience with computerized documentation systems required.


  • Licenses/Certifications:
  • Current active unrestricted RN license issued by State of California. Current American Heart Association BLS and ACLS Provider required. CGRN or related certification, preferred.


  • Skills:
  • Ensures each patient's readiness for screening, diagnostic and therapeutic GI procedures including assessment of required aspects and IV access. Utilizes the Universal Protocol and conducts Time Out for each procedure. Knowledge and skill for managing all aspects of sedation and analgesia provided during a procedure. Knowledge and practice of GI procedures including circulation role for all GI procedures including tissue procurement, tube placements, stent placements and dilations to manage treatment of disease. Manages care of procedural patient including comprehensive pre, intra and post procedural care. Establishes discharge readiness based on established discharge criteria and provides each patient with individualized written discharge instructions. Demonstrates knowledge and practice in keeping with Infection Control policies and NPSG. Demonstrates commitment to Customer Service standards.
