Restorative Nursing Assistant Primary Job Function

The primary purpose of this position is to carry out restorative nursing functions. The restorative care plans are developed according to the need of each individual resident to ensure that the resident is able to increase or maintain their highest possible functioning level while in the care of our facility.

Responsibilities:
Restorative Nursing Assistant Primary Responsibilities

Performing and providing written/verbal care assignments, routine skills and procedures to ensure the quality of care to residents. This includes:

* Providing direct restorative care and delegated formalized therapy tasks as assigned, completing work accurately, safely and in a timely manner;
* Participating in all aspects of restorative care programming and facilitating such programs (i.e., range of motion, walking, etc.);
* Assisting Restorative Nurse in administering the Bowel and Bladder Program and assisting direct care staff with scheduled toileting;
* Notifying the Charge Nurse/Restorative Nurse when a resident is regressing/progressing or refusing participation in the program so that an assessment can be done by nursing staff and changes can be made in the program and care plan as needed;
* Making a second attempt to provide services when a resident indicates refusal or is out of the facility for an appointment, etc.;
* Monitoring equipment and reporting needs to go to therapy and/or restorative nurse;
* Serving as a resource and teammate to other nursing assistants working with them to provide the specific restorative nursing care for each resident;
* Participating in QA programs related to functions;
* Understanding rehabilitation and restorative nursing program and assisting with interpreting this to staff;
* Provide medical record documentation in accordance with facility policy and procedures and assisting department in performing routine departmental functions:
* Providing a list of the residents on restorative programs to the nurse in charge of those residents;
* Following the plan of care directives and documenting provision of services accurately;
* Documenting minutes on designated forms for completion of restorative plans as written;
* Complying with safety requirements, infection control measures, and maintaining a clean work environment in accordance with facility policy as indicated by:
* Using protective devices (side rails, Geri chairs and poseys) appropriately and under the direction of the staff nurse;
* Abiding by all emergency protocols for crash carts, resident codes, fire safety, missing residents, tornado preparation, violent residents, Wander guard alarms, door alarms, and other facility policies as assigned;
* Reporting any forms of abuse witnessed or aware of to the nurse manager immediately;
* Following infection control and universal precautions procedures;
* Following periodic cleaning schedules for equipment and returning equipment to proper area after use, and
* Ensuring the nursing service work areas are maintained in a clean and sanitary manner.

Qualifications:
Restorative Nursing Assistant Qualifications:

Must possess specific educational and experience requirements such as:

* A high school diploma or GED, unless working under a student permit.
* Be certified by the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) as a C.N.A. in good standing. CNAs transferring from another state may work for 120 days while awaiting their Indiana certification. Graduating CNA students, not yet certified, may also work for 120 days while awaiting their Indiana certification.
