Medical Intensive Care Unit

Memorial Hospital of Tampas 12-bed intensive care unit provides highly skilled nursing for critically ill patients. Using advanced patient monitoring technology and sophisticated medical equipment, we provide continuous, comprehensive care for patients with serious conditions, including those recovering from heart attacks, surgery, stroke, severe accidents or complex illnesses.

To meet each patient's unique needs, we follow a multi-disciplinary approach that involves doctors, nurses, dieticians, pharmacists, physical and respiratory therapists and social services. Our team is dedicated to providing expert healthcare and to treating patients with the compassion and respect they deserve.

A large nurse workstation, located right outside the patient rooms, enables the ICU nursing staff to respond quickly to emergencies or any other patient need.

  • Type of Cases Commonly Seen: AFIB RVR, Post- Cath Lab, Respiratory distress, CHF, Hypertensive, LTAC, COPD
  • Skill Mix: Registered Nurses
  • Major Equipment Used: EV1000, vents
  • Schedules: 12-hour shifts
  • Dress code: Scrubs (individual provides their own)
  • Complete computerized charting ("Electronic Health Record") for patient assessment and care documentation via Meditech
  • Electronic medication administration record (eMAR) is used for the delivery of all medications provided to patients and has significantly reduced errors associated with the administration of medication hospital-wide

Position Description

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Registered Nurse, under the direction of Unit Director/Charge Clinical Coordinator, is responsible and accountable for patient assessment and evaluation and delivery of patient care through the utilization of the nursing process in accordance with physicians orders, established policies and procedures, established professional standards, and administrative hospital-wide policies.

Qualifications

Requirements
  • Nursing Diploma or ASN; BSN preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year RN experience in an acute care setting preferred.
  • At least 1 year Critical Care experience is required.
  • Current Florida State Registered Nurse license.
  • Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider (BLS & ACLS certifications).
  • NIHSS certification preferred; obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • National certification (CCRN) required within 6 months of eligibility.
  • Lifting 50 lbs maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonal communication skills, ability to read/comprehend written instructions, ability to follow verbal instructions, PC skills.
