General Description:

Under general supervision, provides preventative and health care to an assigned group of patients or clients in the OU MEDICAL CENTER facility.

Essential Responsibilities:

* Will assist with the nursing assessment through data collection, observation, and obtainment of vital signs on assigned patients or clients.
* Provide care according to an established nursing plan.
* Observe changes in patients condition and notify supervisory personnel if significant changes occur.
* Provide routine ostomy care, nasogastric tube placement and feeding and placement and discontinuing of oral-gastric tube. Will initiate and monitor oxygen therapy according to physician orders or unit protocol.
* Will suction and clean tracheotomy sites.
* May administer oral, intra-muscular, intra-dermal, subcutaneous, sub-lingual, vaginal, rectal and topical medications.
* Prepare patients for routine physical examinations and assist the physician during examinations.
* An LPN can function in the role of Surgical Tech if position open is in the operating room.

General Responsibilities:

* Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Graduation from an approved License Practical Nurse program.

Experience: None required.

Licensure/Certifications/Registrations Required: Current LPN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a current multistate compact LPN License (eNLC). Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

* Knowledge of professional nursing theories, practices, techniques, and procedures.
* Ability to organize, coordinate, plan and evaluate nursing needs of assigned patients.
* Must be knowledgeable about operating room techniques if applying for a surgery position.
* Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
