Responsibilities:
Assists the Vascular Surgeons in the care of his/her patients of all ages: adolescent, adult, and geriatric. Uses Physician Assistant knowledge base in providing direct patient care for patients of all ages: adolescent, adult, and geriatric, in the clinical setting. Activities involve inpatient, outpatient, and surgical care/procedures and may be performed where ever the supervising physician regularly sees patients (i.e. Main OR, CVCC, Peripheral Vascular Lab, inpatient units and Emergency Department). The Physician Assistant works under the auspices of the Vascular surgeons in accordance with practice laws governing Physician Assistants. (Refer to Rule 360-5-.07.)

Provides care in compliance with Federal, State and established hospital protocols. Provides quality care in accordance with standards established by the University Hospital Department of Medicine, i.e. comprehensive, coordinated, integrated, and accountable.

Qualifications:
EducationSuccessfully completion of an accredited Physicians Assistant Program with all the knowledge and skills normally acquired through such a program, with current licensure in the State of Georgia as Physicians Assistant.Licensure/CertificationCurrent license in State of Georgia as Physician's Assistant. BLS, ACLS requiredExperienceAbility to perform patient care at a level normally acquired through one year as a Physician Assistant in a vascular surgery setting highly desirableKnowledge, Skills and AbilitiesAbility to apply professional education in a busy clinical setting. Basic level of analytical ability required in order to set priorities and coordinate patient care. Advanced level of interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively with multiple personalities and levels of personnel. Ability to perform efficiently and effectively under stress. Requires frequent intense concentration/attention to detail 90% of the time to read and document, use equipment and computers, and to prioritize and provide patient care both direct and indirect. Job requires both initiative and dependability. Philosophy of health care and nursing is compatible with that of the mission of the institution. Work ethic compatible with that of the Operating Room/University Hospital management and demands of the unit.Physical DemandsIndividual physical activity includes: long periods of communication; verbal and written, hearing, manual dexterity, standing, sitting and walking, bending and stooping, lifting heavy objects. Sensory abilities of sight, auditory, tactile and olfactory are required to observe patients and their symptoms. Sufficient physical and psychological health to allow 95% attendance.
