Responsibilities:
Utilizes advance professional nursing skills to meet a variety of healthcare as primary focus. Interacts with a variety of healthcare professionals and security staff in a correctional environment.Below is a list of your responsibilities as a Behavioral Health Nurse Practitioner with Corizon Health.Responds to and initiates care for those requiring mental health services throughout the facility.Assesses inmate/patient in a variety of settings.Identifies inmate/patient mental health problems and prescribes treatment under direction of a physician.Implements mental health services utilizing therapeutic regimens approved by a psychiatrist.Provides mental health education to inmate/patient, healthcare and correctional staff.Documents all mental healthcare contacts.Adheres to safety and security policies and participates in disaster drills.Follows security regulations for keys, sharps and controlled medications.Delegates to and supervises other appropriate infection control practices.Adheres to Universal Precautions and other appropriate infection control practices.Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required. Experience & Requirements:
Graduate of an accredited college/university Nurse Practitioner program with current license/ certification in the state in which working. Must have current CPR certification. Must be available to participate in on-call schedule. Subject to initial and ongoing security clearance requirements.Correctional officers provide security; however, some degree of risk of verbal and physical assault from inmates exists. As in any healthcare setting, employees may be exposed to communicable and/or infectious diseases. Inside work with periodic traveling (inter and intra state) to other locations with exposure to weather, temperature extremes and hazardous road conditions. Frequent standing and walking while presenting or performing job duties. Because patients need round the clock care, working hours include days, nights, weekends, holidays and on-call. Rotating shifts, weekends as well as holiday and work during inclement weather will be required. Adheres to site/contract specific regarding on-call requirements and mandated schedules/overtime. Team members may be mandated to work shifts and/or overtime due to site/staffing or emergencies. Essential staff is defined as healthcare and behavioral professionals that may be required or mandated to work due to site/staffing or emergencies (natural disaster, inclement weather or other situations).Employees must be able to perform the following:Required to exert up to 50 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects including the human body. Required to kneel, stoop, crouch and/or crawl occasionally. Frequent walking throughout site; to include walking up and down flights of stairs.Must have and maintain sufficient strength, agility, and endurance to perform during stressful (physical, mental and emotional) situations encountered on the job.Occasional running when responding to emergencies; must be able to perform BLS. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. Frequently required to sit, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, and talk/hear. Requires critical thinking, organizational, decisive judgment, communication, good customer service skills. Must be able to handle multiple tasks, be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate actions as needed.
