Overview:
This position is located in the Department of Behavioral Health (BH) at Fort Carson, CO.Ft. Carson combines scenic beauty, pleasant residential areas, and cultural activities to satisfy every taste. It is an unusually well-rounded military community which offers a variety of recreational and cultural opportunities. World-class ski resorts are available within a short 2 1/2 hour drive, golf courses and biking trails are available on the installation as well as in the surrounding community. Numerous colleges and universities are available for continuing education.Recruitment or relocation bonus will be authorized.Medical malpractice liability insurance is not required for federal civilian healthcare providers as they are covered by the Federal Tort Claims Act (28 U.S.C. 1346(b)) while acting within the scope of their employment.Position may be subject to on-call duty hours.American Board certification in Psychiatry is preferred.This position may require weekend call duties and evenings.You may be assigned to be the prescribing team member for a way of delivering BH health care in a forward location within the footprint of a supported unit. This type of BH delivery consists of consultation with operational unit leaders, endeavors to identify Soldiers with BH issues early in the course of their psychopathology and provides appropriate treatment and recommendations for disposition, such as medical retirement or administrative separation. Responsibilities:
Employee performs duties as a practitioner and consultant in Psychiatry with emphasis on problems of all levels of complexity and must come to the position with knowledge and experience (ideally working with the military population) providing treatment services in any capacity including, but not limited to, inpatient service, partial hospitalization service, intensive outpatient services, routine outpatient services, consultation liaison services and must be well-versed to transition to any area as required. Employee provides continuing follow-up care for chronic inpatients and outpatients with acute disorders and complications of these disorders, such as psychosis, organic brain syndrome, substance abuse/addictions, etc. and provides psychiatric care for walk-in patients presenting with acute illnesses of minor and major proportions. The employee is expected to exercise initiative and sound judgment in establishing evaluation techniques, developing treatment and rehabilitation plans.Incumbent collaborates with physicians in other medical specialties on cases involving complicated and multifaceted problems and provides professional consultation, supervision, and collaborative medical support to other professional staff such as psychologists, advanced practical nurses, social workers, as well as military specific liaison work with commanders.Incumbent directs Quality Assurance studies within his/her area of responsibility and makes decisions that have a serious impact on the lives of others, such as recommending hospitalization or determining a service member's fitness for duty or assessing and completing Medical Evaluation Board (MEB), Temporary Disability Retirement List (TDRL) evaluations, psychological autopsies, sanity boards, command consultations, and other administrative processes as required and prepares reports of such evaluations according to applicable regulations

Qualifications:
US Citizenship RequiredBasic Requirements: Applicant must have a degree in medicine; completion of internship, residency in Psychiatry; Board Eligible/Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.Degree: MD or DO from a school in the US or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of the applicants graduation. An MD or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school that provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the US may be demonstrated by permanent certification by ECFMG or a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the US and graduate education in a foreign country.Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining an MD or DO, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in an institution accredited for such training. (This 1 year of supervised experience may be waived for research or administrative positions not requiring direct patient care.) For purposes of this standard, graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the US or Canada. Listings of accredited programs are published yearly in the Directory of Residency Training Programs and the Yearbook and Directory of Osteopathic Physicians.Specialized Experience: 5 years of residency training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training.Licensure: For positions involving patient care, candidates must have a permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.Additional Requirements:Advanced Cardiac and Basic Life Support certifications.
