Department DetailsNew Grads Welcome to ApplySign on Bonus AvailableClinical Decision unit is a unit that provides evaluation and care of patients whose medical needs can most often be met within a 24-hour time frame. The CDU provides a monitored environment where the patient is not admitted, but needs specific medical care (diagnostic testing, assessment of symptoms, therapy, etc.) that can t be provided in the home setting. The patient remains in the CDU until a definitive diagnosis is made and the patient is either admitted or the condition has resolved and the patient is discharged. The CDU is most often utilized as an extension of the ED, allowing patients to move to a more appropriate environment rather than remain in the ED while further testing or observation occurs. ResponsibilitiesPlans and coordinates patient care, assessment, education, triage and various other nursing interventionsCollaborates with colleagues, including physicians, to plan, implement and evaluate careEmpathetically cares for patients during all stages of preventive services, health maintenance, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up along the continuum of careDemonstrates competency and uses comprehensive nursing expertiseQualifications Graduate from an accredited nursing program required, including, but not limited to, American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), and National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA). Bachelor s Degree in nursing preferred. Currently holds an unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing where the practice of nursing is occurring and/or possess multistate licensure if in a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state. Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications.
