The Department of Pediatrics, Rhode Island Hospital/Hasbro Children’s Hospital and the Alpert Medical School of Brown University are seeking a Division Director of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. The successful candidate will be board certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. Candidates must qualify for appointment to the rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University. Excellence in clinical care, teaching, and scholarly contribution is required. Experience in administrative leadership and mentoring junior faculty is highly desired. National reputation and scholarly achievements appropriate for a senior level position will be expected. The Division Director will oversee coordination of clinical and translational research activities. It is expected that approximately 25% of the incumbent’s time will be devoted to research commensurate with the candidate’s expertise and experience in research and scholarly activity.

Hasbro Children’s Hospital is the only pediatric tertiary care center in Rhode Island and serves as the primary pediatric teaching facility for the Alpert Medical School of Brown University and the site for Brown University’s Pediatric, Medicine/Pediatrics and Triple Board residency training programs. The Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine is a vibrant, busy and active group of 8 Critical Care Medicine physicians and 2 Nurse Practitioners, with strong collaborations and excellent working relationships with dedicated respiratory therapists and pharmacists, surgical (e.g. Pediatric Surgery, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedics, Plastic Surgery, Otorhinolaryngology, etc.) and medical (e.g. Hospital Medicine, Cardiology, Neurology, Pulmonology, Emergency Medicine, etc.) subspecialists, as well as support from Social Work, Child Psychiatry, Dieticians, and Child Life. In addition to our clinical care in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, we also direct the hospital’s Pediatric Sedation and LifePACT (transport service) programs. Our pediatric intensivists also consult with Women and Infants Hospital’s NICU program. Hasbro Children’s Hospital is an American College of Surgeons designated Level I Pediatric Trauma Center and a Level I Burn Center. The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit houses the only Neonatal and Pediatric Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) program in the state. Hasbro Children’s Hospital Pediatric Epilepsy Program is part of a NAEC level 4 Comprehensive Epilepsy Center and epilepsy surgeries are routinely performed in collaboration with the PICU for invasive EEG monitoring and postoperative care. The Division Director is responsible for oversight of the clinical, teaching, and scholarly activities of the Division. The faculty members have teaching responsibilities for the Pediatric Critical Care Rotation of fellowships in Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Pediatric Surgery and Surgical Critical Care.
