This position is eligible for a combined sign on bonus in the amount of $10,00. 00*, based on experience. To qualify for the bonus, candidates must start prior to 11/30/2021 AND must not have been employed by St. Charles Health System in the last 6 months.
Also eligible for an in-state or out-of-state relocation bonus.

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: The Bend Operating room consists of 16 OR suites and supports SCHS Bend's level 2 trauma and Joint Commission Stroke and Bariatric Center of Excellence designations in addition to multiple service lines (including general and orthopedic trauma, urology, neuro, vascular, orthopedics, CT surgery, ophthalmology, plastics, ENT, etc ). Services also include robotics, supporting total joints using MAKO and a Davinci Xi suite with surgeons in CT, urology, general, gyn and bariatric services credentialed.

POSITION OVERVIEW: The Nurse Manager of the OR provides leadership and operational management in partnership with the Director of Perioperative Services and peer managers. This leader demonstrates leader qualities that reflect St. Charles' lean transformation journey that focuses on continuous improvement and respect for people. Effectively plans, coordinates, and implements services in alignment with the Director of Perioperative Services including financial, resource and regulatory environment management. Supports business and programmatic initiatives aligned with disease state management, optimized flow of patients through the surgical episode of care, and improvement initiatives. Effectively manages performance of direct reports in alignment with the SCHS ACTS of Excellence and established cultural initiatives at the system, campus and division level. This position directly manages the following positions: Assistant Nurse Manager- Bend OR, Assistant Manager CST-Bend OR, Supervisor ORAs- Bend OR, and other caregivers within the OR team including RNs and CSTs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

Oversee the operations of assigned department to ensure smooth and efficient department operations and that resources are available in the assigned units 24/7. Collaborates with other staff members to facilitate provision of patient care.

Ensures adequate departmental staffing to provide safe patient care through review of appropriate data, development and maintenance of master schedules.

Acts as the department liaison to other hospital departments and outside entities.

Responsible for resource management ensuring appropriate and sufficient equipment and supplies are available. Manages staffing and scheduling (control of master schedule; ETO & LOA approval; light duty scheduling) - delegates related clerical functions to admin assistant and/or other applicable staff.

Serves as a real-time resource and assists with clinical expertise for staff with problem-solving on patient care, processes, and family issues. Serves as representative for all customers.

Maintains ongoing communication with staff, department leadership, and others to ensure needs are being met for staff and patients. Engages medical staff to obtain input on the operation of the department and key decisions.

Communicates (both written and orally) effectively and maintains professional relationships with caregivers, medical staff, patients, guests and other hospital departments.

Role models two-way communication of the St. Charles Health System mission, vision, values, and strategic plan for the department (staff meetings, rounds, etc.).

Coordinates quality initiatives and process improvements. Aligns and manages to St. Charles Health System metrics and quality initiatives. Oversees trending of quality and financial indicators including LOS with case manager support.

Facilitates department meetings and shared governance/leadership efforts.

Responsible for budget development, regular monitoring, accountability and meeting all operational targets for all areas within span of control. Manages operations within the budget. Provides productivity oversight and review. Works with leadership to achieve productivity standards. Develops and implements annual plan including goals for unit with director and supervisor. Controls and maintains position control including the addition and deletion of positions related to budget and human resource needs.

Hires, directs, coaches and monitors the performance of all direct reports, to develop and maintain a high performance team that meets organizational and department goals. Responsible for performance and annual review of direct reports. Complies with Human Resource processes and controls.

Monitors and ensure all direct reports are current with compliance and safety requirements. Implements and manages all organizational safety directives and goals.

Provides and oversees team's delivery of customer service in a manner that promotes goodwill, is timely, efficient and accurate.

Assists with quality, safety, customer service and regulatory compliance oversight: EMS - Receipt, assignment, tracking and trending, delegation.

Creates a healing environment that supports all aspects of care, respects the wholeness of the individual, and demonstrates therapeutic presence through attitudes and behaviors that enhance the care experience for patients and caregivers.

Oversees staff documentation for patient care to ensure proficiency in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory agencies.

Directs, oversees and provides for leadership development of staff.

Collaborates with teams to review processes and identify/implement opportunities for improvements, applying Value Improvement Practice concepts and tools.

Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients and guests.

Conducts all activities with the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality. May perform additional duties of similar complexity within the organization, as required or assigned.

EDUCATION

Required: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

BSN or Bachelor's degree in related field.

Preferred: Master's degree in related field.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION

Required: Current licensure with the Oregon State Board of Nursing

Valid Oregon driver's license and ability to meet St. Charles Health System driving requirements

Ability to travel to business functions/trainings/meetings and all St. Charles Health System worksites.
AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification.

Preferred: CNOR

EXPERIENCE

Required: 5 years nursing experience in the Operating Room. 1 year of nursing leadership experience.

Preferred: 2 years' experience in a nursing leadership role.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Continually (75% or more): Standing and walking, keyboard operation, use of clear and audible speaking voice and the ability to hear normal speech level.

Frequently (50%): Sitting, lifting/carrying/pushing or pulling 1-25 pounds. The use and operation of a motor vehicle for Home Health and Wound Caregivers.

Occasionally (25%): Bending, stooping/kneeling/crouching, climbing ladder/step-stool (varies by area), reaching overhead, lifting/carrying/pushing or pulling 25-50 pounds, grasping/squeezing, ability to hear whispered speech level.

Rarely (10%): Climbing stairs.

Never (0%): Climbing ladder/step-stool (varies by area), operation of a motor vehicle.
