Geriatric Psychiatrist, Academic Appointment, Carilion Clinic and the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine
Our geriatric psychiatrists work with patients through the aging process treat patients with depression due to the aging process and those experiencing behavioral issues as a result of cognitive decline (Dementia). We do not see patients with a long-term history of mental illness, but rather those with newly onset symptoms. Our geriatric psychiatrists see patients both in the outpatient clinic setting as well as in the nursing home setting. In the clinic, we work as an interdisciplinary team along Social Workers and nurses.
The schedule is 8-5pm M-F with a mixture of nursing home and outpatient clinic visits. We do not have call for our psychiatrists, but there may be the option to take call with the general psychiatry group.

Carilion Clinic seeks Psychiatrist's to join our team in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. This position also offers the opportunity for research with the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute and a faculty appointment with the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTCSOM). Current opportunities exist in inpatient and outpatient, child and adult, and addictions.
As we continue to grow our department, we are looking for several key psychiatrists to help us develop and implement our vision of an integrated research institution dedicated to extraordinary patient care and educational innovation. Positions may be filled at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level with opportunities for undergraduate and graduate medical education and research engagement.
The Virginia Tech Carilion (VTC) Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine is a strong and growing presence in regional healthcare. Our Department is based in Roanoke Virginia and has clinical, educational, and research sites throughout the region. Our Faculty are based in Roanoke at the Carilion Clinic, a Top 100 Hospital, in Radford at the Carilion New River Valley Hospital, at the Salem VAMC, and at the Catawba Hospital. We are part of the VTC School of Medicine, one of the newest and most innovative medical schools in the nation. We work closely with the VTC Research Institute, headed by the neuroscientist Michael Friedlander PhD, that has over $70 Million of current funding. The Department is focused on the extensive development and implementation of patient-centered research utilizing measurement-based care.
