Department Chair – Periodontics and Endodontics at the State University of New York at Buffalo

The University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine invites qualified applications for the position of Chair of the Department of Periodontics and Endodontics. We seek a leader who will provide vision and focus to build upon a strong team to advance the mission of the department and school.

Responsibilities for the department include predoctoral and postdoctoral education, service activities, clinical care and research. The chair is expected to provide leadership in strategic planning, departmental curriculum management, budgeting, department staffing and supervision, faculty development, and overall management of departmental activities. The Chair reports directly to the Dean, School of Dental Medicine. The preferred candidate requires an individual with national/international prominence and a commitment to evidence-based teaching and practice, a history of significant extramural funding and scholarship, demonstrated leadership skills, and success in communicating with a diverse cadre of faculty, staff and students to develop and achieve a vision for growth.

Specific position responsibilities include; oversight for all teaching, research and administrative activities of the department; mentoring and development of faculty for promotion and tenure; enhancement of the research portfolio of the department; support of the advanced education programs and their alumni; mentoring students, residents and fellows; and representing the department at internal and external meetings.

The appointment will be at the rank of Professor (HS) tenure eligible with a full-time commitment. It is envisioned that the position will also offer the recently established Cianco Endowed Professorship title. A DDS/DMD degree or equivalent is required along with eligibility for dental licensure in New York State. Board qualification in either periodontics or endodontics is required although certification is preferred as is a Master’s or PhD degree. A record of significant extramural research funding is required and a record of significant extramural research funding from the National Institute for Dental and Craniofacial Research is preferred.
