Associate / Full Professor – Director, Division of Cardiology and Pfizer Chair in Cardiovascular Research

The Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto and the Division of Cardiology of the University Health Network (UHN) and Sinai Health System (SHS) are seeking to recruit a visionary cardiologist to lead their joint Division of Cardiology, a division of the Department of Medicine, University of Toronto. This is one of three academic hospital Divisions of Cardiology with a single training program affiliated with the University of Toronto Division of Cardiology. The successful candidate must be eligible for a Full-time Clinical academic appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor at the University of Toronto. This divisional director position is for a 5-year term, renewable once following a successful review, and is supported by the Pfizer Chair in Cardiovascular Research. Effective start date of appointment is September 1, 2018, or to be negotiated.
The successful candidate will lead a large academically successful Cardiology Division with over 50 full time staff physicians across SHS and UHN that has access to world-leading infrastructure and incorporates a full set of comprehensive tertiary programs. The successful applicant should be a visionary leader with sophisticated interpersonal skills, leadership experience and a track record of achievement in at least one of research, education, creative professional activity, system design and/or quality and safety. The Division Director will be expected to develop an academic strategic plan and fundraising program, and guide approaches to recruitment and enhancement of patient-centered quality and safety programs. He/she will be expected to bridge diverse groups, strengthen capacity in research across disciplines, collaborate with the Cardiology Divisions in other University of Toronto Teaching Hospitals, and the University Division Director to optimize the citywide Cardiology Programme, and provide strong mentorship to trainees and faculty at all stages of career. At UHN, the successful candidate will work collaboratively with the Program Director of the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre to continue to develop leading academic and clinical programs in cardiology. She/he will report to the Physicians in Chief at both SHS and UHN.
He/she must hold MD qualifications and have, or be eligible for licensure in Ontario. Academic rank, salary and contractual arrangements will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. Minimum compensation will be $300,000 per year. For the successful applicant, compensation will be negotiated and will be highly competitive with the usual income range for a senior academic cardiologist in the Province of Ontario.
