The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science at Yale University School of Medicine is accepting applications for the position of Chief of Pediatric Ophthalmology at Yale University School of Medicine and Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital. Applicants at the Professor or senior Associate Professor level will be considered.

Yale New Haven Children's Hospital is a dedicated pediatric hospital with world-class experts who offer a full spectrum of primary and specialized medical care.  With campuses in New Haven and Bridgeport, Yale Children’s Hospital offers cutting-edge therapies to area children long before they are available nationwide. Our advanced approaches to pediatric therapies, our innovative research, and our community outreach and advocacy ensure a continuum of excellence for patients regionally, nationally and internationally.

The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science at Yale has a long-standing tradition of excellence in clinical care and research in multiple subspecialty areas of ophthalmology. Our faculty provide clinical services for patients with over 75,000 visits annually at Yale Medicine Ophthalmology, the Smilow Cancer Hospital, the Dana Clinic at Yale New Haven Hospital, and the West Haven Veterans Affairs Hospital. We have a strong and competitive residency program, which consists of 15 residents, and 3 fellowship programs.  The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science is located within the Yale University School of Medicine, which is one of the nation’s oldest and most competitive medical schools, consistently ranking in the top few in federal research funding. Clinical services are delivered through Yale Medicine, which is the largest multispecialty physician practice in New England, containing 1400 providers.

The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science is affiliated with the Yale New Haven Health System, a growing health care system including Yale-New Haven Hospital and Saint Raphael’s Hospital, Bridgeport Hospital, Greenwich Hospital, and Lawrence and Memorial Hospital. The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science has clinical offices at Yale Medicine Ophthalmology in New Haven and Guilford, CT, with easy access to the state-of-art ambulatory surgical centers at the New Haven site. The Department is planning to expand into Fairfield County and beyond. Our department is growing, with plans to add multiple new clinical and research faculty members to coincide with this geographic expansion.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a candidate who is interested in a solid career in academic medicine in a world class setting for clinical practice, education, and research. The ideal candidate will be devoted to clinical excellence, to advancing our knowledge of understanding and treating ocular diseases, and must have a firm commitment to the education of residents and medical students. Candidates must be certified or eligible for certification by the American Board of Ophthalmology and must have completed their fellowship training in pediatric ophthalmology.  Academic rank will be commensurate with qualifications.
