Within a complex organisational structure with almost 10,000 highly motivated employees, high-quality, individually tailored patient care, multidisciplinary collaboration, professionalism, innovation and continuing training are of central importance. The Radiotherapy/Oncology Department at UZ Leuven plays a leading role in national and European organisations. The department currently employs eight radiotherapists and nine trainees. Together with 6 physicists and 28 technicians, they care for 2,400 radiotherapy patients each year receiving treatments with 5 linear accelerators. The Brachytherapy Department has both PDR and HDR facilities. The department is part of the Leuven Cancer Institute (LKI), where it engages in intensive collaboration with other clinical and diagnostic disciplines in day-to-day patient care.

Medical Department Head – Radiotherapy/Oncology

Job description: The Medical Department Head works alongside management to determine the strategic policy of his/her department and translates this policy into specifi c targets for clinical practice, clinical scientific research and training and education. • You espouse the vision and values of UZ Leuven as an international centre of medical excellence. • You ensure continuous optimisation and innovation within your discipline. You are able to inspire your sta- and steer them constructively towards working in a quality-driven and innovative way, and you also supervise the training of trainee medical specialists. • In addition to the multi-agency aspects of your work, you will also devote attention to developing the academic dimension of the department.

What you can offer • You have a recognised qualifi cation obtained in Belgium or elsewhere in the European Union as a physician specialising in radiotherapy/oncology. • You carry authority in the fi eld of clinical radiotherapy/oncology, training and research, as evidenced by publications and international recognition. • You have experience in collaborating with other disciplines in oncological care programmes and possess the necessary leadership qualities and communication skills. • You have an interest in clinical scientific research and are willing to contribute to the training of medical specialists.
