Position description
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of McGill University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the field of women’s health research at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.
The Department provides comprehensive evidence based care of the highest quality in an effective and efficient manner with respect for the dignity, the highest ethical standards, and the excellence in research. The Department trains academic and non-academic Obstetricians and Gynecologists for its own revitalization, as well as for the province, country and for the international community.
Research is an integral part of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. It is a requirement for our academicians as well as for our trainees. It ranges from Basic Science Research, Clinical Research and Epidemiological Research. The basic science research is under the Division of Reproductive Biology and includes cellular and molecular basis of mammalian reproduction and embryonic development, and investigation of Wnt signalling in endometriosis. Clinical investigations are performed by members of our divisions including research in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Gynecologic Oncology, Urogynecology, and Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery. Epidemiology research includes perinatal epidemiology and reproductive epidemiology. Perinatal mental is another area of our research.
McGill University is situated in the heart of downtown Montreal, one of the most cosmopolitan and dynamic cities in North America, and the extensive campus is located at the edge of splendid Mount Royal.
The Department is affiliated with the MUHC Reproductive Center, the largest university fertility center in Quebec with around 3,000 new visits per year. The mission of the department is to provide to the medical students, residents, fellows, as well as to the community of obstetricians and gynecologists, the programs and learning environment to stimulate their curiosity and creativity and to develop the professional skills and human qualities required to deliver specialized care in Women’s Health. Our focus is to pursue the search for new knowledge where research programs will encompass basic science, epidemiology, clinical investigation, health service studies, and evaluation of technology and clinical care delivery systems.
Job Duties
Engage in applied research in issues related to Women’s Health.
Develop a fundamental and disease-relevant research program in their own areas of expertise and in coherence with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Independently acquire sufficient funds to support training of residents as well as graduate students at the MSc and PhD level.
Disseminate research findings through peer-review publications, and other knowledge translation and exchange activities.
Participate in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission (i.e.: teaching, supervision of graduate students and involvement in academic and administrative committees)
Qualifications and Education requirements
The ideal candidate for this position will be a PhD in epidemiology, public health, biostatistics or relevant field. Applicants should demonstrate the ability to independently manage a research program with a capacity for fostering collaborations and working collaboratively with local, national and international researchers and community partners. The incumbent should have an excellent track record in obtaining grants from peer-reviewed agencies. The ideal candidate should also possess excellent leadership skills, strong communication and writing skills, and a good track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals.
