WORK WITH THE BEST.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PRACTICING MEDICINE AND LEADING IT.

Chair, Department of Rehabilitation and Restorative Medicine

Houston Methodist is expanding its rehabilitation services to department status, and a national search is underway for a chair for this new department.

This candidate should be an accomplished clinical leader, nationally recognized in physical medicine and rehabilitation, with a strong academic reputation, who has the leadership qualities to develop a nationally recognized department.

This new department reflects the needs of Houston Methodist clinical programs for rehabilitation services as they expand in size and scope. At the same time, remarkable developments in computer science, robotics, biotherapeutics and regenerative medicine hold promise for our ability to repair damage and restore function to patients who sustain injuries or devastating illnesses, and we desire to invest in translational programs in these areas.

We anticipate that this program will form the nucleus and springboard for an expanded and enhanced program in translational science focusing on neurological recovery, while also encompassing the full field of rehabilitation medicine under the auspices of the new Department of Rehabilitation and Restorative Medicine.

The successful individual will be expected to develop a strategic plan to grow the clinical service in size and scope while maintaining quality, to develop a vision for education in rehabilitation, to direct rehabilitation and restorative medicine research in a team environment and thus to create a nationally recognized program. Additionally, the successful individual will help develop system wide rehabilitation care throughout the eight hospital Houston Methodist system. The chair will be nominated for a faculty appointment at Weill Cornell Medicine commensurate with their experience and academic accomplishments.

Qualifications:

• M.D. or equivalent degree(s). Additional degrees (e.g. PhD, MBA, MPH) and/or other formal educational preparation for a leadership role will be an asset.

• Demonstration of clinical and academic success that is sufficient to qualify for appointment to the Weill Cornell Medicine faculty.

• Demonstration of leadership qualities essential to effective problem solving, conflict resolution and negotiation.

• Eligible for unrestricted Texas medical licensure.

Application Instructions:

To apply or nominate a candidate, please email CV to JPZepp@houstonmethodist.org attention Dr. H. Dirk Sostman, Chair of Search Committee for Department of Rehabilitation and Restorative Medicine.
