Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse Supervisor provides care services in accordance with community and resident needs, government regulations, projected industry changes, and WEL policies and procedures.

Registered Nurse Supervisor essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

* Supports the philosophy, objectives and administrative policies established by the facility for staff members of nursing services
* Implements federal, state and accreditation regulations and standards related to LTC
* Demonstrates knowledge and interprets legal and nursing practice standards in directing resident care activities
* Implements nursing practice standards in directing resident care activities.
* Demonstrates knowledge, skill and ability when implementing systems which foster the participation of nursing personnel in planning, coordinating, evaluation and implementing a program of nursing practices to insure safe, efficient and therapeutically effective nursing
* Directs and supervises activities of the neighborhoods for the provision of nursing care services
* Makes rounds in the entire HC at a minimum of twice per shift
* Assesses, assists and manages all emergency occurrences during the shift
* Assists ILU/PCU by responding appropriately to calls
* Participates in and implements the development of nursing department objectives
* Supervises and ensures supervision of staff competency requirements for staff assigned to the neighborhood
* Responsible for decision making, exerts delegated authority, influences the acceptance of decisions, takes calculated risks and is accountable for decisions
* Initiates and participates in neighborhood and facility changes by planning change, supporting change initiatives, and responding in a flexible manner to a changing environment; working in collaboration with the Unit Manager and DON
* Coordinates optimal use of organizational resources including managing time effectively
* Implements staffing patterns and neighborhood coverage in accordance with acuity levels
* Assigns job responsibility to appropriate nursing staff and supervises their follow-up
* Resolves problems through assessment, review of potential solution; involves others in problem solving process and perseveres in search of a solution
* Prepares narrative and statistical reports documenting unit activities as required/requested by Nursing Administration
* Disseminates information essential to job performance for nursing staff; sets priorities, organizations and communicates information
* Administers the personnel function on the unit including the supervision, coaching, counseling, discipline and completion of performance reviews of staff consistent with facility practice in conjunction with the RN/LPN Care Coordinators and Unit Manager
* Facilitates the education of and supervises temporary, orientee or temporary staff
* Evaluates outcomes of nursing care and functions under scope of responsibility on a regular basis to improve quality and plan better utilization of staff time and activities
* Promotes effective working relationships among nursing staff and ancillary personnel, residents and the public
* Participates in committee meetings, as designated
* Collaborates with medical staff in coordinating the planning and provision of nursing care with medical services
* Strives to meet deadlines on special projects, reports and audits
* Provides on-site staff supervision on shifts, including weekends and holiday, when necessary
* Participates in nursing administration on-call services on a rotating basis
* Demonstrates knowledge of management principles and practices involved in nursing services administration
* Demonstrates knowledge and skill in development and coordination of residents plan of care
* Participates in weekly care conference
* Reviews resident care being delivered by nursing personnel and monitors care outcomes on a daily basis according to the plan of care; including plans of action and corrective measures
* Applies communication theories and teaching in negotiating with residents, families and staff members to accomplish resident care
* Communicates changes in resident condition (weight, medication, med errors, abnormal labs/x-rays, reportable infections, incidents/accidents or other unusual observations) to the physician and responsible party
* Demonstrates knowledge of restorative nursing care and assure delivery of RNP
* Demonstrates knowledge of infection control and assures implementation of appropriate infection control practices
* Demonstrates knowledge of wound care; provides wound care and assists in weekly wound care rounds as assigned
* Conducts incident investigations; communicates verbally and in writing the results of the investigations, outcomes and recommendations for the plan of action
* Follows up, in a timely manner, on resident, family, staff and administration questions and concerns
* Proper use of glucose monitoring devices for glucose monitor
* Provide a safe environment by reducing hazards and stimuli to prevent confusion, falls and accidental ingestion of toxic substances
* Administers medications and treatments according to best practice standards and regulations and observe responses
* Administers CPR/Heimlich Maneuver
* Inserts, monitors and discontinues IV's; maintains certification
* Ability to use the following equipment: IV pump, tube feeding, glucose monitoring devices, oxygen equipment, bipap, cpap, air compressors, wound vac, CPM machine, inhalers, pressure relief beds, suction machine, pulse oximeter
* Demonstrates knowledge in respiratory management and tracheostomy care
* Coordinates discharge/transfer of resident with other departments, physician and ancillary service providers
* Conducts resident rounds daily and initiates corrective action; reports abnormal findings to the Unit Manager
* Basic computer literacy; documentation via electronic medical record
* Assess, assist and manage all emergency occurrences during shift and is knowledgable of emergency cart supplies and equipment
* Transcribes and implements physician orders in an accurate and timely manner
* Admits new residents to the neighborhood in accordance with the admission process
* Performs shift controlled drug counts in the presence of on-coming/out-going shift
* Maintains accurate count of controlled drugs, including individual and master log sheets
* Maintains e-drug box supplies record and initiates re-ordering, as necessary
* Reports changes in resident status to the Unit Manager or designee in a timely manner
* Documents in resident medical records as required; including, but not limited to skilled notes, changes in condition, incidents/accidents, MDS related documentation, all assessment tools, etc.
* Coordinates incident investigations, gathers data, assesses information, communicates in writing the results of the investigation, outcomes and makes recommendations for the plan of action
* Documents in the 24° report on resident conditions, concerns, etc.; monitor as appropriate

Qualifications

Related Experience: Prior experience of six (6) months providing care in a SNF or hospital preferred

Education or Degree Requirements: Graduate of accredited school of nursing

Licenses, Certifications, Registrations: Nursing license in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; must be in good standing. Currently registered with the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing examiners
