Reporting to and under the direction of the Department Chairman, the medical Director of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry will participate in programmatic activities which support the Medical Center's mission of quality patient care, research, and education. The primary areas of support will include clinical programs, education, and research, in the area of consultation-liaison psychiatry. Under the direction of the Department Chairman, the Director will also provide oversight to Departmental clinical performance of both faculty and attending staff.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Programmatic*
* To the extent that these Programmatic services involve your professional physician clinical services, and notwithstanding any estimated time commitment set forth herein, you shall at all times be acting and serving as an independent contractor with respect to the Medical Center in your performance of your professional physician clinical services. The Medical Center shall neither have nor exercise any control or direction over the methods by which you perform your professional physician clinical services.

a) Supervision and oversight of faculty and staff providing consultation-liaison services.
b) Delivery of comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and treatment services for patients and their families throughout the Medical Center, including crisis management and supportive services.
c) Delivery of comprehensive consultation-liaison services with other clinical programs and departments in the Medical Center.
d) Participation with multidisciplinary care teams in clinical areas throughout the Medical Center.
e) Development and participation in patient-centered focal treatment programs related to Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry, i.e. Emergency Psychiatry, Psycho-oncology, HIV Disorders, Ambulatory Care Medicine, Surgical Trauma, Geriatric Psychiatry, Neurology, Organ Transplantation.
f) Works closely with other staff and communicates patient sign out/handoff at change of shift.
g) Available via pager or cell phone with a 15 minute response time.
h) Participates in emergency call coverage plan

2. Administrative

a) Represents the department in Performance Improvement Committees, the Psychiatry Faculty Meeting, CL associated root cause analysis, and services on other key committees deemed appropriate both internally and externally to the organization.
b) Participation and coordination of appropriate patient care conferences and staff support services.
c) Completes all documentation and charting on the same day or shift as the clinical service rendered.
d) Bills for direct patient care activity, and submits billing documentation on the same day or shift as the clinical service rendered.
e) Supports and participates in the development of CL database and collection of appropriate data.
f) Initiates and maintain liaison relationships with other departments, and cultivates potentially mutually productive relationships.

3. Teaching

a) Development and delivery of educational initiatives for trainees, physician-colleagues, and allied health professionals.
b) Provides supervision to rotating medical students, residents, or fellows and oversees their clinical rotation and supervision by other faculty.

4. Research

a) Participate in departmental research activities and assist in the development of research goals and activities.
b) Develop collaborative research initiates across the institution, including health services research, neurosciences and biomedical sciences.
c) Actively seek and obtain grant funding for research activities.
d) Take an active role in faculty development, particularly cultivating of scholarly activities, and promoting the funding and investigational success of researchers affiliated with the department.

5. Ensures compliance with state and federal laws, accreditation, professional and regulatory agency standards including quality assurance and licensure requirements within the divisions. Assist in establishing and maintaining a quality assurance program acceptable to the Medical Center as required by The Joint Commission, state and other agencies, which shall include a systematic review of the quality, safety, and appropriateness of services rendered.

6. Pursuant to the Minimum Necessary Information Access Policy, the minimum access to individually identifiable patient information permitted for this individual is secured and maintained in the home department's employee file.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

1. Medical Degree from an accredited medical school
2. Board Certification (or eligibility) in Psychiatry
3. Unrestricted California license as Physician CSMC Medical Staff Membership
4. Eligible for recommendation to the appropriate academic rank at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA
5. A track record of excellence in teaching, patient care and administration
6. Computer competency comprised of a working knowledge of windows and/or a comparable operating system that sufficiently provides for access to patient and other business information
7. Must be able to operate computers and camera, sit, stand, and stoop for long periods of time. Must be able to lift at least 20 pounds.
