Center for Vaccine Development and Global Health (3-309-969)

The Department of Medicine’s Division of Geographic Medicine and the Center for Vaccine Development and Global Health (CVDGH) at the University of Maryland School of Medicine is recruiting for an Assistant Professor to join their rapidly expanding, multidisciplinary vaccine research program.   The CVDGH is a well-funded research enterprise that encompasses the full range of vaccinology, with highly successful programs in vaccine-preventable disease epidemiology and pathogenesis, vaccine immunology, vaccine development, clinical trials, and population-based field studies.

This opening provides the exciting opportunity for an epidemiological modeler to join a collaborative and accomplished research team to understand the most effective and efficient strategies for control of vaccine-preventable diseases.  This will include re-analysis of data from clinical trials and field studies to better understand the waning of vaccine effectiveness, and both epidemiological and economic evaluations of the booster doses, schedule changes, or combination vaccines to optimize vaccine performance.  The integration of clinical research scientists with epidemiologists and basic scientists provides a rich environment to expand or develop an independent research program in vaccinology.   Faculty rank, tenure status and salary will be commensurate with selected candidate’s experience, however, we anticipate the position will be as an Assistant Professor or higher on the tenure track.  This is a full-time faculty position, based in Baltimore.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ph.D. degree in epidemiology or equivalent
  • Training in infectious disease transmission modeling
  • At least 3 years of experience in vaccine-related research
  • Must be a Principal Investigator on two or more sponsored research awards

PREFERRED CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Strong statistical/programming skills
  • Track record of high-impact journal publishing in the field of vaccinology
  • Experience in conducting research in international settings
