Academic Cardiac Surgeon and Chief, Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery

The Department of Surgery at the University of California, Davis, Health System located in Sacramento, California, seeks to hire a full time Adult Cardiac Surgeon and Chief of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the associate or full professor level in the Health Science Clinical Professor, Clinical X or In-Residence series. The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery is a comprehensive academic program with an Integrated 6-year Pathway program, in cardiothoracic surgery in affiliation with Shriners Hospital and David Grant Medical Center on the Travis Air Force Base.

The successful candidate must have acquired a history of leadership and administration experience relating to clinical and educational programs, including successful research activities, by virtue of his/her training and/or prior experience.

The selected candidate will provide strategic and operational direction that will lead to growth of the educational, research and clinical missions of the surgical programs at UC Davis Health. The candidate selected is expected to engage in the teaching and practice of a broad spectrum of adult cardiac surgery; including: clinical care, both inpatient and outpatient; and research relating to cardiothoracic disease.

Basic Qualifications:

Qualified candidates must possess a Medical Degree and be eligible or certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. The ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment is also required.

Preferred Qualifications include experience and capability in end-stage heart disease, minimally invasive surgery and complex coronary revascularization. Specific training and experience with complex aortic surgery, catheter based surgery and minimally invasive surgery for atrial fibrillation would also be desirable. The ideal candidate will have vision and willingness to grow a program of excellence.

Additional Qualifications:

The candidate must acquire a CA Medical License before the appointment start date; and obtain a California Fluoroscopy Operator’s Permit within the first year of appointment.
