The Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin is seeking an exceptional leader to serve as the inaugural Associate Chair of Investigation and Discovery for the Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care. A rare opportunity awaits a candidate with a desire to lead the development and strategic priorities of the research enterprise within the Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care. With an integrated administrative infrastructure, the Department is organized to support meaningful collaboration across subspecialties within the Department and other disciplines and Institutes throughout Dell Medical School.  Additionally, The University of Texas at Austin provides a rich opportunity for cross-disciplinary collaboration with over $330 million in federal research funding.

The Associate Chair of Investigation and Discovery will be an integral part of building the Department into a nationally-recognized leader in the research of innovative, value-based approaches to improving health. The Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care’s mission is to: develop new models of care that reward value, develop research programs to evaluate new care delivery paradigms, and educate and train future healthcare leaders. Required Qualifications: Medical degree from an accredited medical school or PhD in a relevant discipline; if MD, board certification in a surgical specialty, anesthesiology, or emergency medicine or significant experience in perioperative medicine, regardless of board certification/specialty; substantial record of leadership and achievement in academic medicine including sustained acquisition and participation in funded research; experience in leading significant single or multi-site research programs in Surgery and Perioperative care.

Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated record of innovation in research and integration into clinical practice and product development; demonstrated record of securing extramural research funding; demonstrated record of faculty and trainee mentorship in research; experience in health services research.
