1. Day-to-Day Job Responsibilities: intermediate but very high acuity; high flow, need to know different types of oxygen needs - but will train this and help them understand terms. Trach patients, lots of CF patients, COPD patients, trilogy ventilations . Comparable to ICU unit because of high acuity; great stepping stone to get into ICU

2. Must Haves: Open to new grads; need trach experience or be willing to provide suction/trach care

3. Plusses: Trach experience; LTC background ; really wants male nurses

4. Number of beds: 21

5. Other clinicians on staff: Care manager, pharmacist, social worker

6. Patient population: Adult to geriatric; Trach patients, lots of CF patients, COPD patients

7. Nurse to patient ratio: 1:4/5, 1:3 if bipap patients

9. Are there any opportunities for growth? Charge openings, transfer to ICU

10. Orientation/Training and Reporting details? 10 week orientation, can go to 12 weeks if needed; day shift first two weeks of orientation, and lots of online training

11. What type of personality works well in this department? Family oriented, pretty diverse group, must be pleasant

Job Requirements:
  • Provide general nursing care to patients in hospital
  • Providing individualized goal directed nursing care to patients in the nursing unit, utilizing the nursing process and standards of nursing care
  • Update the plan of care, nursing care, nursing interventions and patient response
  • Ensure patient care provided by staff in unit/program
  • Use the nursing process to provide patient care
  • Retain accountability for patient care
  • Assist with general activities of the patient care unit and assist the patient care team with performance of patient care activities
  • Coordinate patient services and care
  • Implement the nursing plan of care on assigned patients
  • Assist in basic nursing care needs
  • Optimize the care of the patient
  • Providing direct patient care to a diversified patient population
  • Support care provided/response to the care
  • Provide the foundation for all nursing care
  • Perform the functions of a registered nurse in direct patient care
  • Apply the nursing process in providing care
  • Providing general nursing care to patients as necessary for office treatment
  • Incorporate unit based goals into nursing process
  • Establishing appropriate implementation of nursing actions to ensure competent nursing care
  • Assume the role of a staff nurse and be responsible for the delivery of coordinated nursing care for a patient or an assigned group of patients within a patient care
