Job Description:

The Allergy Shot Clinic Nurse job position requires a smart, detail-oriented, and self-motivated individual with patience and good customer service skills. The Allergy Shot Clinic Nurse is responsible for maintaining the Shot Clinic area, mixing prescribed allergy shot vials, administering allergy shots and biologic medications, documenting treatments in the Rosch Shot Clinic Software, and monitoring patients in the waiting area. S/He will have the knowledge, or will obtain the knowledge, of the scientific methodologies of allergen immunotherapy. S/He will communicate with the provider if any issues arise.

Essential Job Duties - (Duties include but are not limited to the following):
  • Demonstrates clinical competence and sound knowledge base in provision of quality patient care
  • Responsible for following OSHA regulations
  • Maintains patient, employee, and clinic confidentiality
  • Maintains Shot Clinic Area with necessary supplies and materials to perform all related duties
  • Ensures work area cleanliness and maintains sterility of allergy extracts
  • Maintains and documents vial/vaccine temperature range of refrigerators
  • Orders allergen extract and related supplies to keep stock in-date and readily available
  • Verify insurance and referrals prior to allergy vial mixing and prior to administering the shots
  • Work closely with the Front Office and the Billing Department to ensure appropriate patient care and allow timely business aspects of the Shot Clinic
  • Learn and perform immunotherapy vial mixing procedures
  • Learn and master injections of allergy shots and biologics
  • Be fully aware of the signs and symptoms of allergic reactions
  • Assesses patient needs and suggests solutions to patient care problems
  • Maintains accurate patient records in the patient electronic medical record eClinicalWorks and the shot clinic's electronic record system Rosch Visionary
  • Assures patient stays for required observation time after injection(s)
  • Reacts appropriately to patient allergic reaction situations; informs physician and other clinical staff as necessary to mitigate adverse reactions
  • Ensure patients maintain their regular "follow-up" appointments with the provider
  • Regularly interact with physicians and other departments in order to identify and resolve problems
  • Maintains knowledge of trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate articles, journals, and related material and by attending seminars and conferences
  • Serves as a role model and consultant to colleagues
  • Responsible for reporting improperly operating medical equipment and instruments to coordinator/manager

Position Qualifications:

Minimum Education
  • College coursework in the medical field

Minimum Experience
  • N/A

Required Registration / License / Certification
  • CPR Certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Allergen extract mixing, fingertip sterility testing, and compounding vial certification (or willingness to obtain)

Preferred Education
  • Associates or Bachelor's Degree of Nursing

Preferred Experience
  • Prior clinical experience in Allergy
  • Prior experience with electronic health records

Preferred Registration / License / Certification
  • Active Registered Nurse License in the State of Alabama or Licensed LPN with applicable knowledge

Physical Demands
  • Coordination, manual, and physical dexterity sufficient to properly and adequately use various items of medical equipment and office equipment as required of the position or directed by the coordinator/manager. The position may involve sitting, standing, bending, and stooping. Repetitive motion or fixed position for prolonged periods. Employee must be capable of lifting up to 25 pounds
