Academic Cardio-Oncologist, Department of Medicine

The Department of Medicine at McMaster University invites applications for a Cardiologist to join the Division of Cardiology at McMaster University and the Cardio-Oncology Service at Hamilton Health Sciences (Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Center).  This is a full-time faculty position for a period of three years (renewable).  Academic rank will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Applicants will have completed speciality training in Cardiology, and at least 1 year of a cardio-oncology fellowship.  A strong clinical interest in cardio-oncology is essential.  Experience in clinical research is also required.  

Hamilton Health Sciences is an academic teaching hospital  affiliated with McMaster University.  The Cardio-Oncology Service is geographically based at the Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Center, and provides the following services to both inpatients and outpatients: 1) advice on clinical cardiovascular decision-making in the context of active cancer; 2) identification and management of cardiotoxicity from cancer therapies; 3) cardiovascular disease prevention in at-risk cancer patients; 4) management of malignant pericardial effusions.  The Cardio-Oncology Service is also affiliated with the Population Health Research Institute, which is one of the world's leading clinical research groups in cardiology. Clinical research studies are being conducted in patients with breast cancer, prostate cancer, and chronic hematologic malignancies.

The successful candidate will be a full-time member of the Department of Medicine, McMaster University and will be expected to participate in all the appropriate departmental and divisional educational activities.  The successful applicant will be expected to build strong relations between the malignant hematology and oncology departments and the Division of Cardiology.  Academically, the candidate will be expected to develop an educational program that will ensure successful promotion in the Department of Medicine.  If the applicant does not intend to pursue an independent research program, then it is understood that they will work to support established programs at McMaster (e.g. recruitment into trials). Applicants should have demonstrated ability to work with all members of the healthcare team, including non-physician health care providers. Applicants should be certified (or eligible for certification) by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and must be licensed (or eligible for licensure) in the province of Ontario through The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
