Ball State University is pleased to invite applications for the position of Department Chairperson in the Department of Nutrition and Health Science. We are looking for an outstanding individual who possess visionary leadership abilities, management and accreditation experience, and a broad appreciation for the diverse disciplines within our department.

The Department of Nutrition and Health Science (NHS) is housed in the College of Health at Ball State University.  The College is comprised of seven units: School of Nursing, School of Kinesiology, Department of Nutrition and Health Science, Department of Social Work, Department of Military Science, Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology, and the Department of Counseling Psychology, Social Psychology, and Counseling. The college will be housed in the new state-of-the-art Health Professions Building in July of 2019, which will include 30,000 square feet of Clinic space and 30,000 square feet of Simulation space.

The Department of NHS provides traditional and inter-professional education and practice opportunities that prepare students for graduate school as well as a wide assortment of rewarding health-related careers. Our graduates are employed as health education specialists, wellness educators, registered dietitian nutritionists, respiratory therapists, and radiographers. We offer graduate and undergraduate majors in nutrition and dietetics, an undergraduate major in health education and promotion, and a minor in public health. Our associate degree program in radiography and our bachelor’s degree program in respiratory therapy, based at IU Health Methodist Hospital in nearby Indianapolis, provide students with real-world clinical experiences.

Minimum qualifications:  Earned doctorate from an accredited college or university in a field related to the academic programs in the Department.  A minimum of three years of successful relevant leadership experience.

 Successful involvement in scholarly productivity demonstrated by publications, presentations, grants, or creative endeavors in a field related to the programs of the Department.  A minimum of ten years of university teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level in a field related to the programs of the Department, gained concurrently or at any time.  Professional achievements in teaching, research, and service commensurate with the rank of tenured Associate or Full Professor.

Preferred qualifications: Outstanding record of administrative academic leadership (e.g., Chairperson or Associate/Assistant Chairperson of an academic department or Assistant/Associate Dean of a college). Leadership in service work including active participation in a related professional organization.

Preferred other: Demonstrated record of distinguished:

- Scholarly productivity including publications, presentations, grants, or creative endeavors.

 - College/university teaching.

 - Professional service.
