The Marasco lab is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our team as a Research Fellow to perform studies in the field of infectious diseases, particularly regarding influenza. For more information please visit our site: www.marascolab.org.

 

The study will primarily focus on the role of IGHV polymorphism in a cohort of healthy volunteers that have participated in a seasonal influenza vaccine study. We would like to evaluate the genetic elements that are used to make antibodies against a highly conserved stem domain of influenza A hemagglutinin protein that is an important part of the emerging “universal” influenza vaccines. We seek to understand how individuals with different genetic backgrounds of antibody genes respond to seasonal influenza vaccination. The investigator will be involved in all aspects of this project. S/he will design and perform RepSeq, IgSeq and DropSeq studies on the flu cohort samples. Based on the intergrated DropSeq, IgSeq and RepSeq data, s/he will also design and test novel universal inflenza vaccines in vitro and in vivo. The position also requres subcloning of antibody/antigen genes into bacterial and mammalian expressor vectors, production, and purification of recombinant antibodies from bacteria or mammalian cells for BiaCore analysis, as well as structural determination. While the lab is currently focused on influenza, we have other onging projects on MERS coronaviruses and Zika and other faviviruses.

 

 

 

This individual is expected to maintain accurate laboratory notebooks, both written and electronic; make presentations at lab meetings to update the group on experimental progress or current literature; and will be responsible for writing methods and materials, results, figure legends, and figures for grant proposals, progress reports, and manuscripts. Intellectual input is expected.

 

 

 

Schedule:

 

This is a regular, full time position. Nights and weekends may be required to meet research needs.

 


 

Ph.D. in biological sciences with a background in molecular and cellular biology, immunology or microbiology. Candidates should have 5 years of documented bench research experience with a strong background in both molecular and cell biology techniques. Publications in infectious diseases are required. Candidates are expected to be self-starters with the ability to work well and cooperate within a team environment. While supervisory experience is a plus, candidates should expect to be fully involved in hands-on bench work.

 

 

 

Candidates are expected to be able to multi-task and be well organized. Strong written and verbal English communication skills are necessary as well as competency in Word, Excel, etc. Attention to experimental details and good time management skills are both required.
