The Ohio State University College of Dentistry seeks applicants for a full-time position as Chair of the Division of Orthodontics at the rank of associate professor with tenure or professor with tenure. Tenure appointments require candidates to possess an established record of research, scholarly works, teaching excellence, and professional service.
The Division of Orthodontics’ research-related endeavors include basic science, clinical, and translational research that involves other divisions in the college, select units across campus, and peer institutions, both national and international. Funding to support these initiatives originates from the National Institutes of Health, the American Association of Orthodontics Foundation, and the dental industry. The orthodontics program is affiliated with The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and Nationwide Children’s Hospital, offering additional opportunities for interdisciplinary research and patient care that includes orthognathic, cleft palate, and craniofacial anomalies.
The orthodontics division chair is responsible for the overall administration and leadership of the unit; strategic curriculum planning; resource management; development of junior faculty; oversight of the residency and graduate clinic; pre-doctoral didactic and clinical curricula; scheduling management; and evaluation of staff and faculty. Other duties include supporting the overall mission of the division, participating in university and college governance, contributing to the college’s continuing education and alumni affairs programs, and practicing in the college’s affiliated intramural Dental Faculty Practice. This position is distinguished by the inclusion of the Vig/Williams Endowed Chair in Orthodontics, which provides added compensation for the chair and support for the division.
Candidates must have a DDS/DMD degree or international equivalent degree, completed a CODA accredited advanced education program in orthodontics, and be eligible for a regular or limited teaching license by the Ohio State Dental Board (dental.ohio.gov/Licensure/Dentist). The successful candidate will also have a national reputation as a scholar with a record of funding; knowledge of innovative teaching and learning strategies in orthodontic education; an appreciation for the benefits that diversity brings to an academic environment; and evidence of engagement in organized orthodontics. Preference will be given to candidates with certification by the American Board of Orthodontics or the European Board of Orthodontics, advanced degree(s), experience in teaching and clinical practice, involvement in the accreditation process, and administrative experience with a demonstrated record of recruitment and retention of faculty.
