Description

The Department of Pediatrics at Wake Forest School of Medicine is seeking a full-time, Board Certified or Board Eligible Neonatologist at the Assistant, Associate, or Professor level to become Associate Neonatal-Perinatal Fellowship Director. The Fellowship program currently accepts two candidates per year and has a robust curriculum utilizing didactic, bedside, simulation, and neurocritical education models. Successful applicants with join thirteen neonatologists, a behavioral psychologist, and numerous advanced practitioners in the Section of Neonatology.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications: MD or DO, strong clinical and educational skills, and dedication to, and/or funded, scholarly activity in research or quality improvement.

The Section is part of Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC which manages infants in the Sisel Newborn Intensive Care Unit, a 79-bed state-of-the-Art center opened in 2020. The Section has active research focused on neonatal follow-up, neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome, ELGANS, clinical trials, Precision Medicine, and fetal programming amongst others. The Level IV NICU serves as the referral center for the more than 28,000 neonates born in Northwest North Carolina’s Perinatal Region II with admissions exceeding 950 annually.

The hospital includes 175 inpatient beds, 11 PICU beds, 79 NICU beds, and admits 4,500 children annually. In addition, more than 50,000 pediatric subspecialty visits occur at our outpatient clinics and over 36,000 children visit the emergency room each year. Brenner Children’s became the first Level I pediatric trauma center in the state in 2011 and has maintained its verification ever since. Currently it is the only Level I pediatric trauma center in the region and one of only three in North Carolina. The hospital has been recently verified by the ACS as a Level I Children’s Surgery Center, one of only 28 in the entire country, including 7 OR suites.
