PEDIATRIC EMERGENCY MEDICINE OAKLAND

The Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), School of Medicine, seeks an outstanding leader in Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) to serve as Section Chief of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Benioff Children’s Hospital (BCH) Oakland, with a joint appointment in the Department of Pediatrics. In partnership with the Vice Chair of Pediatric Emergency Medicine, the Section Chief will have the following roles and responsibilities:

  1. Oversee academic and operational activities at the BCH Oakland Emergency Department.
  2. Manage day-to-day activities of the section, mentor faculty, promote research and coordinate educational programs.
  3. Work with the Vice Chair to direct the vision and manage the growth of pediatric emergency care at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland.
  4. Work collaboratively with nursing and medical leadership across all divisions at Oakland.
  5. Work with departmental leadership to manage the Section’s budget, faculty recruitment and evaluation.

UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland has served the local community for more than 100 years and is a free-standing Children’s Hospital with a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center and approximately 34,000 visits in 2021. The Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine has a fully accredited Pediatric Emergency Medicine fellowship and a PEM Ultrasound fellowship. The Section Chief will have the opportunity to work with outstanding emergency medicine and pediatric residents from a variety of sites. Now part of the Pediatric Emergency Care Applied Research Network (PECARN), research is a major priority across the department of Emergency Medicine with over 50 ongoing studies and 100 peer-reviewed publications last year. There are opportunities for leadership and growth within the Department and UCSF School of Medicine. Applicants for this position must have a minimum of 5 years leadership experience in an academic pediatric emergency department and must be Board Certified in Pediatric Emergency Medicine.
