The Department of Diagnostic Radiology at the American University of Beirut Medical Center invites applications for a faculty appointment in the subspecialty of Medical Physics

Applicants must hold an MS or preferably a PhD degree in General Medical Imaging Physics from a recognized program and have completed a 1 year of post-doctoral training in one or more imaging subspecialty (General X-ray, US, CT, MRI, or mammography). 

The candidate will be expected to perform tests to evaluate performance of imaging equipment for patient safety, image quality, and efficiency. The tests should aim to ensure compliance with international guidelines and JCI requirements concerning patient radiation safety and optimum consistent image quality.

The successful candidate is expected to ensure that diagnostic systems and procedures are in compliance with regulations and accrediting bodies governing their use. The individual will be responsible for commissioning, testing, optimizing, and monitoring the performance of imaging equipment. Responsibilities include clinical diagnostic services, teaching and supporting the radiation safety program. Clinical responsibilities will include all imaging modalities - radiography, fluoroscopy, CT, mammography, US and MRI. The candidate is also expected to assess trends in equipment performance over time, collect necessary statistics and maintain required records and reports, in coordination with Radiation Safety Office and Biomedical Engineering.

The currently available imaging systems consist of 2 CT scanners and a third dual energy coming soon, 2 MRI scanners (1.5T and 3T) and a third 3T scanner coming soon,1specialized procedural suite (Radiology and Neurology), 10 radiography/fluoroscopy systems, 2 breast imaging systems (3D-tomosynthesis, 2D and stereotactic biopsy units), and 6 ultrasound units.

The candidate is expected to be involved in teaching radiology residents the physics principles of imaging equipment. 

The successful candidates will be appointed to an appropriate professorial rank as per University criteria.
