The Western Health and Social Care Trust provide services to a 3,800 square metres area of outstanding beauty in the west of Northern Ireland. It is the largest district hospital in Northern Ireland and has the widest range of specialties outside Belfast City and Royal Group of Hospitals. There are approximately 450 beds on the site covering all the acute specialities including Trauma and Orthopaedics, Maxillo-Facial surgery and Ophthalmology in addition to the usual DGH specialities. It is designated as a Cancer Unit linked to the Cancer Centre at Belfast. It delivers acute services across this region through two main acute hospitals (Altnagelvin Area Hospital in Londonderry, South West Acute Hospital in Enniskillen) supported by a local hospital the Omagh Hospital and Primary Care Complex. The Western Health and Social Care Trust "area" hospital Altnagelvin is situated in Derry and provides a full range of acute services.

Derry - Londonderry is the second-largest city in Northern Ireland and the fourth-largest city on the island of Ireland. The old walled city lies on the west bank of the River Foyle, which is spanned by two road bridges and one footbridge, ‘The Peace Bridge.’ The district is administered by Derry City Council and contains both Londonderry Port and City of Derry Airport. The Greater Derry area, about 20 miles (32 km) of the city, has a population of 110,000. Derry – Londonderry is a prime location for exploring the spectacular scenery of Donegal, the Causeway coast and the North Antrim Coast and with a public transport service, providing regular bus / train service to Belfast City in approximately 90 minutes. The city has a full range of top quality academic institutions, from primary, secondary and grammar schools, through higher and further education to its own university campus at Magee college, part of the multi-site University of Ulster.

Salary: £76,001 - £102,466 PA

A waiting list may be established for any further vacancies that may arise in General Radiology across the Trust within the next six months

The trust has completed a major equipment replacement programme and operates a fully integrated province wide RIS/PACS with integrated Voice Recognition and Vitrea software. Home links for on call are available.

The Trust provides a full range of services on its acute sites including Anaesthetics, ENT with Head and Neck surgery, Oral Surgery with provision of sub regional services, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Respiratory, General and specialist Surgery including Vascular, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, sub regional Orthopaedics, major Emergency units, Pathology, Haematology, Neurology, Urology, Palliative Care and is a Cancer Centre. A Radiotherapy Unit on the Altnagelvin site opened in November 2016.

Altnagelvin Area Hospital is located on the outskirts of Londonderry, which is N Ireland’s second largest city, which has excellent schools, very affordable housing and a wide range of arts and leisure facilities and is within a short drive of some of Ireland’s best beaches.

The department currently has one MRI scanne , Nuclear Medicine including SPECT CT, two CT scanners, Direct Digital Radiography, Ultrasound, interventional radiology, fluoroscopy and DEXA. A new Radiotherapy and Oncology Centre opened in November 2016. The Centre has Linear accelerators, a CT simulator and a dedicated diagnostic imaging department comprising a CT scanner, Digital Radiography and MRI scanner.

Altnagelvin is the site of the Western Breast Screening Unit which caters for the needs of 45,000 women, in a fully digital environment providing both screening and symptomatic services
