Summary
Physicians at Lancaster General Health are often found collaborating with their peers and team members to provide a coordinated and holistic approach to care through our patient centered medical home model. We believe that care must incorporate all needs of the patient. This includes medically necessary before and after care services, as well as access to socio-economic resources in the community, to ensure their wellbeing as the ultimate path to recovery. Our belief in this type of approach allows our physicians the opportunity to participate in clinical and organizational improvement huddles, committees and other initiatives, providing opportunities to innovate within their own practices as well as the overarching health system.
The Ann. B Barshinger Cancer Institute at Lancaster General Health, a part of Penn Medicine, is seeking an outpatient palliative medicine physician to join a growing practice. The palliative care physician will work in the outpatient Cancer Institute with a well-established interdisciplinary team comprised of physicians, social workers, chaplains, physician assistants and nurses. The qualified candidate will possess broad clinical knowledge and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Clinical responsibilities include expert management of physical and emotional symptoms related to cancer or disease-directed treatment, facilitating advance care planning discussions, and collaborating closely with each patient's primary oncology team.
This program provides a collegial atmosphere with colleagues, where palliative care is viewed as an integral part of oncologic care. The oncology teams and hospital leadership are invested in value-based care and possess progressive views toward expanding access to specialty-level palliative care concurrently with disease-directed treatment throughout the continuum of illness. In addition, there are opportunities for academic advancement through Penn Medicine, which can be tailored to the candidate's individual interests.
Our cancer team physicians, including palliative medicine, practice in a single location at Penn Medicine's Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute , a 90,000 square foot state-of-the-art cancer center that provides medical, surgical, radiation, and palliative oncology under one roof. Our warm, light-filled, modern cancer institute includes 60 infusion chairs, 53 examination rooms, 4 linear accelerators, brachytherapy, and the nation's first CyberKnife M6. Construction is well underway for an integrated Proton Therapy center.
Our high-functioning professional multidisciplinary care team also comprises nine nurse navigators, four social workers, two dietitians, two chaplains, three financial counselors, two Behavioral Health specialists and three physical therapists. We have two full time onsite licensed cancer Genetic Counselors, and a full-time clinical research team. Critical to our success and to our mission is our focus on our team, quality of life, continuing education, job satisfaction, and administrative support. Interested physicians are encouraged to pursue research and areas of clinical focus.
Our cancer program is a member of Penn Medicine Cancer Service Line, sharing site-specific oncology disease teams, which focus on quality, safety, and program growth. Being part of Penn Medicine creates additional cross-system research and growth opportunities for interested individuals. We are a successful member of the CMS Oncology Care Model and are looking for forward thinking physician leaders who share our focus on quality, patient satisfaction and financial stability.
Must be a graduate of an accredited School of Medicine (Allopathic/Osteopathic)
Completion of an accredited residency program
Completion of an accredited Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship
Completion of an accredited Possess or able to obtain an unrestricted PA Medical License
Board Certified or Board Eligible
2-3 years of experience as a Hospice and Palliative physician desirable
