The prestigious Henry Ford Health System (HFHS) is seeking a Division Head to lead the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Division. Founded in 1915 by auto pioneer Henry Ford, HFHS is now one of the nation's leading health care providers. HFHS is a not-for-profit corporation comprised of 6 hospitals, numerous medical centers, and one of the nation's largest group practices, the Henry Ford Medical Group, which includes more than 1,200 physicians practicing in over 40 specialties. The System's flagship Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, is a Level 1 Trauma Center recognized for clinical excellence in many specialties. With more than 30,000 employees, HFHS is one of the largest and most diverse employers in metro Detroit.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is a critical component to the future growth plans of Henry Ford Hospital, with specific plans in place to form an integrated dual degree residency training program at the institution. The CODA application is submitted and the division is currently working to prepare for the preliminary site visit, with hopes to start training OMFS residents in 2024. Partnerships with Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and the University of Detroit Mercy Dental School have significantly bolstered this effort.

Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery is currently a division of the world-renowned Henry Ford Department of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery. HFHS has an audacious goal to support the incoming OMFS leader and faculty towards building OMFS into an independent, freestanding Department within the next few years.

With the recent construction of a dedicated OMFS clinic in Royal Oak Michigan, and a hospital-based clinic at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit the current surgeons at HFHS can enjoy a robust scope of clinical practice, with focus on Trauma Surgery, TMJ Surgery, Pathology, Reconstruction, and Facial Cosmetics. The faculty practice boasts a convenient suburban location, state of the art imaging, full capabilities for anesthesia, and a digital workflow complete with intraoral scanning and 3D printing.

Additionally, the system has invested heavily in the development of a Department of Hospital Dentistry with plans of simultaneously creating a GPR training program.

An ideal candidate for this position would be someone interested in maintaining a full scope practice with focus on major surgery, teaching, and research. This person would be interested in helping the division grow into a department, attract the highest qualified surgeons and residents from across the country and world, and work to restore Henry Ford Hospital as a center of excellence for OMFS care and training.

Successful candidates will have a dental degree from an ADA-accredited program, completed an advanced training program in oral and maxillofacial surgery, be an experienced and active faculty of an established oral & maxillofacial surgery residency training program, and have a desire to maintain a full scope of practice for OMFS. Board Certification by the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery is a prerequisite and additionally, all applicants must be eligible for licensure in Michigan.

In addition to the Division Head role, HFHS is also hiring an additional Staff/Senior Staff OMFS provider. For a staff role, candidates are not required to have current/previous academic experience. All inquiries will be handled in a confidential manner.

For immediate consideration please inquire with an updated copy of your CV so we can discuss the position by phone. Also, inform me of your best available times to speak. I look forward to your reply and thank you for your review. Please do not delay as we anticipate a significant response.
