Where you will be working:

Wyong Hospital is an acute major metropolitan hospital with over 300 beds providing inpatient, outpatient and emergency services to residents in the northern region of the Central Coast. A recent $200 million expansion delivered a new emergency department, ICU, paediatric unit, inpatient wards, theatres and expanded medical imaging services.

Gosford Hospital is the principal referral hospital and trauma centre for the Central Coast, with over 500 inpatient beds and 24/7 access to the emergency department and operating theatres. A recent $368 million dollar redevelopment delivered a new emergency department, ICU, nuclear medicine facility, special care nursery and expanded medical imaging services.

Wyong Hospital and Gosford Hospitals have busy mixed Emergency Departments with a wide variety of presentations including good exposure to trauma and paediatrics. Both are well supported by committed emergency physicians and a junior medical workforce with a tight team that is highly procedurally focused. There is access to regular simulation training and paid protected weekly education sessions for Australian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM) trainees. ACEM Advanced Trainees have the opportunity to rotate to dedicated positions in ICU and anaesthetics within CCLHD and to tertiary paediatrics, tertiary trauma and retrieval through external secondments. CCLHD emergency trainees have been very successful at passing their Fellowship exams and there is a well organised training program.

Our General Medicine teams are headed by Staff Specialists and Visiting Medical Officers (VMOs) and supported with Trainees, Residents, and Interns.  Rotations can include:  General Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, Rehabilitation Medicine, Medical Assessment Unit, Cardiology, Emergency, Cardiology, Neurology, Gastroenterology and Medical Oncology and ICU.  The position offers mentoring, supervision, workforce support and career guidance from a supportive Medical Workforce Team, Staff Specialists and Visiting Medical Officer’s (VMOs).  Our General Medicine teams provide exposure to medical terms that give the medical officer the opportunity to develop the necessary skills and competencies before entering the Basic Physician Training Program (BPT) with several terms being accredited by the Royal Australian College of Physicians (RACP).  Central Coast Local Health District is affiliated with both the Northern Network and Hunter New England Network for Basic Physician Training.

In conjunction with the University of Newcastle, CCLHD has recently opened the Central Coast Clinical School and Research Institute on the Gosford Hospital campus, providing additional opportunities in training and research.
