Physician – Patient Safety Officer

Reporting to the Chief Quality Officer, the Physician - Patient Safety Officer (PSO) will serve as a champion of safety culture and patient safety, while working to catalyze and develop programs that support these efforts with partnerships at both our Jacobi and North Central Bronx campuses.

NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi accommodates more than 325,000 outpatient visits, more than 100,000 emergency room visits and more than 20,000 inpatient admissions annually. NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi is renowned for The Trauma Center, staffed to treat any traumatic injury or illness, the fully accredited Breast Health Center, and The Burn Center, with more than 40 years of work in burn care. The hospital also serves patients with many other needs and maintains an academic affiliation with Albert Einstein Medical College of Yeshiva University.

NYC Health + Hospitals/North Central Bronx handles more than 156,000 outpatient visits, over 50,000 emergency room visits and more than 7,500 admissions annually in the 232-bed facility. The hospital maintains an academic affiliation with the James J. Peters VA Medical Center.

Responsibilities include:

  • This role is a 0.6FTE position, with the remaining 0.4FTE dedicated to clinical services commensurate with specialty. It is anticipated that the PSO will split their time between both facilities.
  • Helping inform and implement the optimal Patient Safety structure with a focus on National Patient Safety Goal enhancement.
  • Advancing TEAMStepps and Just Culture programming by serving as a trainer/coach.
  • Developing and implementing efforts to improve LeapFrog/STAR rating.
  • Working to promote "Good Catch/Near Miss" reporting and translating the learnings into performance improvement opportunities.
  • Assisting in execution of the Health Administration Scholars Program.
  • Leading the hospital-wide daily leadership huddle at each site once per month.
  • Serving as a Helping Healers Heal (H3) Champion, ultimately becoming an H3 trainer.
  • Attending the hospital Patient Experience Committee and Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) Committee meetings.
  • Leading efforts to promote Patient Safety awareness, including events during National Patient Safety Week.

Qualifications include:

  • Board Certification or Board Eligibility in specialty
  • New York State License
  • NYS Registration
  • Appointed to Medical Staff in specialty

Preferred:

  • TEAMStepps Master Trainer Certification
  • Managerial/Leadership Experience in a Quality Improvement/Patient Safety role
